raising humidity

i just got my ball python about a week ago and hes about 3 ft long....anyway he has a respiritory infection so im taking him to the vet.....but i need to raise the humidity in the mean time and spraying the tank and stuff doesn't seem to raise it, i also have a nice size water dish in there too......could it be that my humidity cage isn't working right or am i doing something wrong?

if it is a stick on guage than it could just be broken. only like half of those work.

To raise humidity I bought oneof those fluckers vines and wrapped a fake leaf strand around it. then I just bent it up an put it in. the leaves catch the water and allow it to drip for longer. plus it looks cool and my ball likes to move it around.

Or better yet, put fish in the tank and put your BP in either a rubbermaid or a wooden enclosure.

I totally agree with Invictus. Its almost impossible to keep the humidity where u want it with an aquarium. Rubbermaids are great for keeping humidity and they are the ideal size for a Ball.

home made humidifyer

what I have done (because I am stubborn about my glass viv.

1. cover 3/4 of the top screen with plastic wrap.
2. mad a humidifier for my cage

for this you need
1 aquarium air pump (about $15)
1 airstone (for said pump)($5)
1 2 litre pop bottle
1 check valve ($5)
8ft rubber hose ($5)
1 soldering iron
1. tube silicone caulk

steps

1. using the soldering iron make 1 hole in the lid of the coke bottle and 1 low down on the side of the bottle

2. cut the rubber hose into 3 pieces

3. attach 1 peice hose to the air pump

4. put the check valve in the other end of this line (tip: double check valve to make sure that it flows the right way to the bottle)

5. attch the other length of hose through the low hole on the bottle feed it through the top and attach the air stone to it then pull this down in to the bottom of the bottle again.

6. feed the last section of hose of through the hole in the lid for about 3 inches other end into the tank (about 1/2 way down the side )

7. seal all holes with the caulk till water tight

8. let caulk set for 24hrs to be sure

9 fill bottle with water and turn on the pump

the air that is released into the bottle will escape to your viv carrying the moisture with it
raised my humidity 15 to 20% with in about an hour. (no more spraying)

worked for me give er a go and good luck

I'm telling ya just use those fake leaves. they work good for me. They are cloth so they hold some water for a day or two. I think that is the easiest way.

Seems like a lot of work building a humidifier, when building a gorgeous 3x2 plywood enclosure is so simple... but to each their own I guess.

Not that hard

It take about 5 mins to put together
and you also get to enjoy a cold coke os you empty the 2 litre bottle
