Rosy Boa Shed Question

Hello, I've had Dozer for about a month, and he was born last August. He's been acting a little jumpy lately, whereas he used to be more mellow. He hasnt struck at me or anything, but he just lookes scared sometimes. I keep wondering if it's because he's going to shed, but he doesnt look cloudy and his eyes look pretty clear to me. He's coppery orange and beige, and he looks almost like he's become a little yellower, but maybe I'm just imagining it.

How often will he shed? At this age - Has he ever shed before, do you think? Will he look all cloudy like a python/boa when he's ready to shed? I just wondered. He's also been hiding a lot, but I realize that this species spends most of the time under rocks and stuff.

Linds, I'm asking u mostly, cuz I know that you have a Rosy...how often do you handle yours? I don't want to push his limits.

Sometimes you can tell when a rosy is in shed, sometimes you cant. Thats what it seems to boil down to. Ive spoken to peole that have noticed the same thing as I. My rosy now doesnt seem to go blue (anymore), he just sort of gets dingy looking in colour, almost like he's tobacco stained...lol.

Yes, he has she several times before now. They shed not too long after they are born (which is almost always before they even begin to eat). As for frequency, this varies from snake to snake and how they are cared for as well. As long as he appears healthy and is eating fine, then I wouldnt worry about it.

Lol... once a rosy is established they tolerate handling better than just about any other species out there. If you handle your rosy too much he will let you know that he is stressed. So once again, as long as he is eating and seems content, dont worry about it and enjoy your little guy

P.s- when are you gonna post pics of your lil guy?

No camera :(

I don't have a digital, so I wont be putting any pictures up any time soon. It's on my birthday wish list though!! So maybe it will be sooner than I think that I will be able to share the beauty of Dozer with you guys, lol.

Yeah, he finally shed last night. I was so glad! He shed in one big piece, so I guess it's not overly humid in my apt afterall. I was so glad to see him alert and friendly once again. He is such a looky-loo. Always poking his head in every which way! Thanks for your input!
