It looks so complicated though!

Hey guys i really want to make my own display enclosure. I just think that if i try to do it i will mess up and my time and effort will be worthless! I dont have any real experience with wood really so... almost hopeless.

I have made a wooden vivarium before but it didnt turn out too great...

What do you guys think?

Is it worth spending time to make a really nice display vivarium yourself or to just buy one?

If you think you can do a descent job ( which you don't seem to have the confidence) then it is well worth it. You can make it exactly the size and shape you want, add all the features you want, etc. Essentially, you can make the absolute perfect cage for the space, money, and animal that you have by making it yourself.

On the other hand, i don't feel i saved any money making my chameleon cage. It likely cost me more in the long run. But it was fun to build, probably larger then any you can buy on the market, and i probably like it more anyways.

its all your choice. If you have the ability, i say do it. If it will come out looking like a piece of junk that you hammered some nails in to and then wrapped in duct tape, then you should probably buy it.

get a drill, and a saw. you can work all the problems fairly easily. jsut sit abck and think if you get stuck.

things will break, split, crack, bend, nto work out or just plain look like crap. its all part of it. expect to screw up, dotn sweat it tehn fix it. woodworkign is not at all difficult, jsut sometimes time consuming.

Half the fun of owning them is building them. Anyone can buy them. Get dirty and CUSTOM make one to fit YOUR budget and animals!

I would love to be able to build my own enclosures but so far when we have tried (gave it a couple shots) it came out pretty bad, last attempt is usable but Im going with someone else building it for me until I take a basic woodworking class as well as get my own tools!! LOL

I really want to make my own tank but all the plans I've looked at and guides all look pretty complex. Does anyone have any guides that are really simple to follow around? I dont want to try to do it myself again. I have made one before, it's in my gallery if you wanna checkit out, it's very er... primitive though lol

KB knows his shizznit. Who cares about plans and guides though. Its a 5-sided cage with a glass front. You don't need plans. Sit down and draw the squares and figure out the measurements and you're good to go!!!
