Question bran?

can i use bran as a substate? and if not what would you recomend for non impaction.

I've never used bran, but I would think it would clump and mold when it got wet. Almost any substrate that is small enough to be ingested can pose an impaction risk. You can feed the animal in another container without substrate to prevent substrate ingestion.
Personally, I just use paper products like heavy grade craft paper or paper towels for my cage substrates. Practically no risk of impaction with that set up.
Some people use aspen shavings/chips, but it can get lodged in the snake's mouth if you feed on it.
