Good looking monitors... sobek is a beast!!

How big and old are your ackies?
Mine is around 12-13inches... does this sound about par for a 4 1/2 month old ackie?

Not sure how fast they grow from hatchlings, but mine are..

Both 1.5-2+ years old, the female is about 16 or so inches, and the male is around 24 inches if I remember. Ackies are awesome, they are so brave and want to get into everything going on around them. The female is a bit skittish yet but shes gotten alot better, the male is like a little scaly teddy bear.

So mine being around the 12-13 inche marks sounds about right yeh.

Mine was alright the first week, and then just got real skittish. i have noticed a huge improvement in 'calming him down' over the last week or so.

Do males grow a lot bigger and faster than females?
And does the sand need to be 'misted' so it contains a bit of moisture for the ackie to drink. I've been meaning to ask this for ages but i have been doing it, just incase

I dont use sand, its kinda useless..

I use dirt, you can add a small percentage of sand to the dirt but sand alone is no good. Even desert arent pure sand or even close, they are dirt, organic material, minerals, and sand. Of course even with a higher percenatage of sand, 2-4ft down its damp all of the time in a desert.
