sad when owners dont know what theyr doing
anyone else things its just wrong when someone owns geckos and then loses a female FT gecko for 6 months finds her alive but her tail fell off and then PUTS HER back into the cage with a male who immdiately breeds with her. i mean stress the poor thing out even more than she is. *sighes*

You would be amazed how many people own reptiles and are completely ignorant on how they should be cared for. Allot of it is simply misinformation and complete lack of info as well. It really is horrible. I noticed you are from New Brunswick as well. Where in the province are you from ?

Fredericton NB, there are a few good New Brunswick herpers scattered around the province. I find more all the time who want to learn more. Have you found the NB herp , or Atlantic herp fourms on yahoo ?? It’s a good way to talk with others way out here about herps.

Do you keep any reptiles right now ?

no i havent but thanks ALOT for the sites. and no i dont keep any herps right now but i kept an iguanna for a while untill i could find him a proper home. long story short i rescued him from my own school. it was a VERY long and painfull strugle to get him and i shed lots of tears but finally with help from people from forums and a couple of reptile specialists i finally got the principal to let me keep him. they werent giving him even ONE thing he needed and he was right next to the hallway and had hundreds of people passing bywhen the bell rang and kids knocking at his tank during breaks. He was covered in parasites and barely eating and they werent feeding him the right foods or cleaning his cage right either. they WERENT cleaning it and if they did theyd clean it with water. finally i threatenned the principal to go to the police for animal cruelty or get the health department over here if not both. Im actuallt going for my "visitation rights" to go see iggy today. and bringing the guy some pages on iguanna care because i found out he doesent know everything he should though he has the money to fix the errors hes doing. Im glad i could find someone like him to take iggy . so anyways right now im thinking of getting geckos or a sonoran mountain kingsnake. but i need to get a job first. untill then im buying stuff here and there and getting tanks from people i know .
i know kinda pathetic but hey im an animal activist sometimes and i want to be a vet someday. maybe then if i lecture on about proper herp care to people they wont role their eyes at me and say who are you to tell me what should be done. your not an expert.

Hey!! Yeah, I totally agree with what you guys are saying about people and not being able to take care of reptiles. I rescued 2 bearded dragons from 2 different pet stores. My first beardie, Andy, was malnurished and practically half dead when I bought him and I took him to the vet right away and he grew like 2 times the length he was originally. Now, he is about 2.5 feet long and he is a chubby one!! Last Friday, I bought Tinkerbell, from another store because she was missing her tail and 4 toes.. She didnt have the proper lighting or food and she looked so unhappy. She bit me three times because they didnt even know how to hold her or pick her up properly. I just took her to the vet today, and he said she looks like she is on the right track to getting healthier. She is 1.5 years old and she is only 210 grams. But I'm working on getting her bigger. Andy and her are in separate tanks because I want her to get comfortable with her new surroundings before I introduce her into Andy's 75 gallon tank.
So, as you can see, I totally agree with what you are saying. And I'm so glad that there are other people out there like me who care so much about these helpless animals and about the jerks out there who are too selfish to care for an innocent little thing. I only wish you the best in becoming a vet, I'm sure you'd be great at it because you have so much compassion. Just makes me day knowing there are people out there who really care. :O)

im actually hoping i can get a job at the pet store and tell em i know lots about reptiles and up their reputation with their reptile section by giving them what they need and actually being able to tell buyers what they need to know. most guys there dont know what their talking about. if they want to get a better rep maybe theyd think it was a good idea
