first phantasticus egg

Hey all, just a little excited 'cuz I found my first phantasticus egg this morning. The female had been looking big lately and I thought she was likely gravid as I witnessed copulation a little over a month ago. I'm not going to get my hopes up due to the difficulties associated with successfully hatching and raising young phantasticus, but the egg looks good thus far. It was laid in an area of the soil substrate where there was a mossy overhang providing cover, just like it was stated in Neil Meister's article in REPTILES magazine.

Anyways, here's the male again...

Thanks! Here's a pic of the egg. To get an idea of size, that is a water bottle cap that the egg is sitting in.

if I can be successful and hatch out the gecko as well as get it to an age where I know it will survive, I will consider selling it. However, keeping in mind that uroplatus just went on CITES awhile back, I may also hold onto any offspring I produce as they certainly aren't a common gecko and will only become more desirable as time goes on. But here's a pic of the setup. Hope you like it!

Thanks all for the well wishes!

Klik: The tank is a 30 gallon tall size.

As of today, the egg still looks great and I'm hoping for the best.

Thanks again,
-Adam

Country:
I'm crossing my fingers the egg hatches
A few years ago I managed to get several Uroplatus species breeding, but the success rate sucked. Phants survived for 3-4 months, Sikorae about 2 months, and most Fimbriatus about 6 months. There was one Fimbriatus that made it to almost 18 months, but I found her dead one morning too. They look great, until they suddenly show up dead without warning. Whatever the magic touch that Neil has, works.

Adam - Have you candled it to see if it is viable? I find it takes a little of the quess work out of the process.
I've got my fingers crossed for you!

Hilde - If you have the time could you post on this thread how you were keeping the hatchlings. I've had success with them in the past, but lost all of my colonies (including hatchlings) one summer due to overheating. I'd like to compare notes to better our odds at being successful with these guys!
