Help me catch a snake!
I am desperate for some help as i have a corn snake loose in my house, it is my neighbours who lost it ages ago and presumed had died. I have told him about the fact that it is somewhere in my house but he has made no effort to try and capture it. I would appreciate any advice on how to coax it out and catch it. I don't want to harm it but am a bit scared so nothing too hands on if poss! Thanks x:monkey:

if you sprinkle baby powder along the cracks of doorways you can narrow down the area where the snake is. you have to use lots though. you'll be able to see if the snake crosses the powder. then i'd take a large plastic container like a butter contain cut a small hole and put a prekilled mouse inside thats larger then the hole. when the snake eats the mouse it can't escape from the container. just an idea

you could just grab it. i noticed you dont want to get "too hands on" but its the easiest way. no traps or anything. do you have a mouse problem in your house, or have you? if it didnt have anything to eat, he/she wouldnt have stayed for long.

No i dont think i have s mouse problem but I haven't seen a spider in months do they eat these? As for grabbing it not so sure especially as it has had hardly any human contact (according to my neighbour) so it would probably be aggressive? Also wouldn't help that i haven't got a clue as to properly pick them up. Thanks though

So what! Will you prefer to let your snake die that having a very little risk of bite???
Sorry but I believe you should'nt have adopt a snake in the first place (my opinion).

Lotus re-read her original post dude, her neighbours snake got in to her apt. and her neighbour thinks its dead so he won't come and look for it. It's not her snake. So it's understandbale that she doesn't want to get bit!

Sorry Snooze! I lost a phrase in the reading.
Another trick a breeder gave me: install sticky rat traps in strategic places. The snake will glue itself in it. After, you will clean it with baby oil.
It is rare that a corn snake will bite. And it is not a big deal if it appened.
Good chance,

Dont use the sticky rat trap thing! IMO its way to stressful on the snake. and after words its STICKY for 2 or 3 sheds and it cant move around properly when its sticky. I wouldnt even use the sticky rat trap as a last resort.
Just my two cents.

Hi Soozee, I'd start by going through each room. Move all the furniture looking in every little hole you think the snake could get into. Also the closets, heat vents, behind the fridge, stove, freezer, old shoes, boots every where!!
As for picking it up. If your not wanting to get bite than where a pair of winter gloves and a heavy sweat shirt. Let me know if you'd like any other qustions answered. John

you can try the rat traps that dont kill the rats
it just holds then in the back like a sort of cage load it with a Dead mouse and wait
i dont think they cost a lot (well not here in the uk)
and also i think you would be one of the first person to get a bite of a corn snake
if this is a worry try putting lemon or something like this on your hands that way the snake will not think of you as food as my cornsnake will not eat if ive washed up but it will come over for a look if ive just had hold of a dead mouse and forgot about it
hope this helps you
thanks
Tony

A long time ago when i lost a snake in the house, I searched absolutely everywhere! I could not find it for a few weeks. Eventually, i found it wedged between a bookcase and the wall, half way up.
The trick is, you can't just look everywhere once, like you would if you lost your keys. The snake is still alive, and therefore moving around.
Take the chance to kill 2 birds with one stone. Complete house overhaul! Clean your closets, go through old boxes, everything. YOu would be amazed at the places that snake can get to. I would bet if you totally cleaned up all your old junk and stuff, you'd probably come across it in the process.
Lastly, how can you be sure the snake is in your house? Did you see it? hear it? How do you know? If you saw it, shut the door to that room, put a towel or something to block the space under the door. Then tear that room apart.
It's a tedious job, but sometimes you'll get lucky and catch it out of the corner of your eye one evening.
Let us know how it works out.
Geoff
