Hey everyone, I was just wondering what people will be selling so I can be ready for the herp before it comes home. I also would really like some dart frogs and was wondering if anyone would be bringing any to sell? If so, what species? Thanks.

Most likely nothing. I may have an adult male banded JCP & maybe an odd King or Corn to release but thats it. No babies until summer, except maybe baby Childrens Pythons which would just hatching around showtime, Mark
P.S. Big Dan will probably have a bunch of baby Boas by then of various types/morphs as will others?

I'm not booking a table for the Spring show, because I'd rather be a volunteer/spectator for this one. Shows are a lot of work, and I'd rather put my efforts where they are more needed, and that's with my duties as a board member.

However, the Spring shows are nothing to be frowned upon! Some people still have leftovers from last season, so instead of getting fresh out of the egg, you're getting 1/2 yearlings that are well-established. Boids are also being hatched / born around this time. There's always a lot to see at the Spring shows.

I plan to be there with my baby boas,they should all have shed and eaten a bunch of times by then. Also I have some left over balls, amazons, leopards, tokays, maybe some planted vivs as well!! Who knows? I'm sure it will be a blast, I haven't been able to make it the past couple of years so it will be nice to see everyone again and maybe meet some ssnakess members too!!

I was speaking for myself personally as stated by others I'm sure there will be lots of baby Boids & leftover Colubrids etc. from the previous year. Its also common for some folks to release a few holdbacks at spring shows as well. I sell out in the fall myself (well so far anyhow) so the spring show is more of a display type event. I like to take down various male breeders quite often to show folks the type of stuff to expect in the summer. I deal with mostly Colubrids so all my babies aren't ready until summer. There are some that start their Colubrids really early so you may see some 2005's there. If you are in the market to buy baby Colubrids IMO fall shows are better, but there will be lots of other Herps available & lots more on display. In the fall at the shows I am so busy selling babys, whereas the spring show is nice for me to meet & socialize with folks. Being the first show of the year I think it will go over pretty big & being at the legion I know it will be PACKED for sure. For those actually planning on buying something I recommend getting there first thing. For all you folks that are just starting to think about getting a table at a show heres my "Newbie Tip" of the day. I remember the last show I just attended as a spectator because I didn't really feel I had much to offer other than just to display a few animals. Well guess what even if you only have a few animals to display you still have something to share & better yet if you have a table you will be talking to folks in the venue both friday night setup & a few hours prior public access is allowed on Sat also. Basically grab a table because you are guarranteed first crack at all the Herps before the public does. A lot of wicked deals go down before the doors even open & if you are there even with 1/2 table & a few display animals you will have early access to everything available!!! That one year I missed out on lots of snakes I would have bought because Ryan & Sheila bought them before the doors even opened. Mark
P.S. another "newbie" tip. Holdback is a term commonly used. If you are buying a "holdback snake" it should be an appropriate size for its age & should have been one of the nicest specimens produced. Many will use the term "holdback" to describe "leftovers" from the previous year that didn't sell (obviously not the nicest ones). "leftovers" refering to stock that didn't sell & those that were problem feeders that took a long time to get established. If the snake they are calling a "holdback" is the same size as a hatchling still, chances are it was a problem feeder not a "holdback". "Holdbacks" should be the best stock produced & considered for future breeders, whereas "problem feeders" do not usually make good future breeders. Another thing is some folks will Brumate the babies that didn't sell over winter rather than feed them thus they are no bigger than hatchlings either. I personally only brumate my adults. All the young ones for sale or not receive full diet etc. year round. "Holdback" is an often abused term IMHO anyway M.I.

I agree with the holdback term. I sold a pair of "holdback" mex blks, b/c they were the pair I wanted to keep, if I hadn't made the decision to slow down for school.

I recently saw an add about a holdback problem feeder. A problem feeder is not a hold back!

The term leftover isn't all that nice though. Sounds kinda reheated >snicker<.

Anyhow, I agree, when you get vendor access talk about the deals!!

I won't have enough this year to have part of a table, I don't think. So I have to wait like all the other saps. Good, I dont need to buy anything new! We will be there for the socializing and to be on top of what's happening for this year.

Just to let everyone know on Marks comments...

If you are wanting to get a table you are expected to take a table or tables for the whole weekend, not just the first day. If you are selling some stuff, please bring other stuff to fill your table for when you sell out.

Also 3 tables is the maximum you can take at the show

Tables must be paid for in advance to be considered reserved - no exceptions

We are limiting the show to 85 tables to have a little more room this year so if you don't want to worry about getting tables you better reserve them quick. Most likely there will be no last minute tables available as the Legion is easy to fill

If you reserve a table and you don't show up you lose your money as well as the next show you are limited to only 1 table.

TARAS members get 1 table free for the spring show and we encourage people to reserve a table even if they just want to display.

Just so everyone knows. I would hate to have a flood of people book tables to get the 'early deals' and they only get a table for that reason.

2nd Greg's comments. Just because you want easy access you don't just book a table to neglect it. You at that point have made a committment to the show for the full event. Many folks don't think they should have a table unless they have things to sell. This is wrong. The show isn't all about sales & buying, it is about sharing your herps with the public & helping them become educated & aware about them. Many of the larger vendors get too busy with sales & its nice that more people that are just hobbists out there sharing their pets with those not fortunate enough to own any herps. Mark

My leftovers are still fresh!! LOL!! They are all for the most part snakes that I just couldn't part with, but now with the show coming it's time to make some room for new projects! All are great eaters and perfect in every way. I didn't even notice how bad "leftovers" sounded until I read the other posts.
