Co-Dom x Recessive
How does this work? Can you have an Albino Pastel? Or Pastel Pied?
How would you accomplish this? Pastel Het Albino x Pastel het Albino? Is this possible? What would it look like?
Thanks

Yeah Pastel het to Pastel het. The Pastel hets would look like pastels of course. From what I've heard pastel albinos aren't much to look at but pastel ghosts look very nice.

Pastel albino's have not even been produced yet so how can they be not much to look at? Unless the big breeders have produced them already and are not telling anybody of them (except you piers LOL). But yes breeding a pastel het albino to a pastel het albino will have a good chance of producing a pastel albino, and of course you could breed a pastel het albino to a albino and have even a better chance to produce them. But yes the the pastel ghost are an amazing snake. HTH

I don't know how they know for sure they have done it but it was mentioned on the RDR site that supposedly the Bells have produced what they think is a pastel albino.
Basically just think of pastels as visible hets and use the normal het rules to figure out how to combine mutations regardless of type. There is always the possibility of a combination not being very stunning or even of two mutations being close together on the same chromosome to complicate things.
As long as you have adult recessive homozygous females making a combo with a co-dom should in theory be pretty quick. For example, breed your pastel/spider/pinstripe/mojave male to the adult ghost/albino/axanthic/pied female. Get lucky enough to get a male of the visible dominant type that is het for the recessive and breed him back to an adult female homozygous recessive perhaps as early as the very next year.

Yeah, the Pastel Albino was produced in the 2004 season. I think it looks like a nice Albino, but not much more than that. It will likely look different as it ages as both Pastels and, to a lesser extent Albinos, go through colour changes as they grow.
I expect to see the first Pied crosses this year from someone. I know Pete had a bunch of stuff in the works with Dom x Pied and Recessive x Pied last year and the year before. Pastel Pieds should be one of the quicker combos and I believe I caught wind of a Spider Pied project, among others. I think this is going to be a great season for combos!

Malaysianbloods Just because you haven't heard of a morph you shouldn't presume that it isn't out there.LOL I herd about the pastel albino meny months ago. I was going to produce pastel het albinos this year untill I heard that they arn't that special so I changed direction in my breeding plans way before xmas.

I'm with Jon on the Albino Pastel. I've seen pictures of it and it doesn't look like much more than a nice albino. That is if the picture that was circulated isn't just an albino, sent to dishearten breeders from producing them and then coming out with the REAL pic of an albino pastel. Just a little theory I've been working on....
The pics definitely aren't throwing me off my game, I'm still going full-tilt with my pastel albino project (will produce one next year) and am still super psyched to see on pop it's head out of an egg.

If nothing else, it's a good combo in that it gives breeders two very popular morphs in one. As long as the price isn't ridiculously high, it would be a great investment.

I suppose the real score would be a Superpastel het Albino X Albino. Or as I mentioned in the first post a Paster or Super Pastel Pied. O would love to see a Pied with the dark pigmentation in bright pastel colours.

Tim, I agree, because there really are no pastel het albinos for sale yet, and it will be years before albino pastels are for sale, the price has yet to be determined. I can see the price being about double that of a pastel ($1500-$2500)and an albino ($3500). I imagine the price of an albino pastel will settle somewhere between $10000-$12000 Cdn.

It would be a nice to see a dedicated thread on Morphs/Genetics. I think it is an interesting and in depth enough topic. Maybe I am wrong but anyway, just my opinion

And with the right snakes in your collection, that price would be easily justifiable.
That's my take on a lot of these designer morphs. Sure, some of them might not exactly be 2x as nice as the original morphs used to produce them, but they are a "double threat". And when you breed one of them to just about anything, they add a LOT of value to all the offspring.
It’s not all about looks, people.

I'd agree with Tim and Mykee,
Multiple genes in one snake is the key, lets go to another extreme with the examples of mutations in this thread.
Who wouldn't like Pastel Double-Het Albino Pieds in their collection. Think of the possible outcome from such a pairing!
The next big thing to hit a terrarium near you are the homozygous recessive/co-doms...
These are in the works people, the ball python industry is soooo secretive, we will only find out when they are produced and even then.
Great post...
