Aquarium Cracks

Has anyone ever used aquarium sealant to patch up medium sized aquarium cracks? I just placed some (actually alot) on a large crack in my 29 gallon tank (drained). Its not an "open crack" only a few drops escape the crack at a time.... Anyone else used this stuff before? How was it?

Lets just put it this way- If you're planning to use the tank for fish- good luck.

YOu might be just fine- perfect.

OR one day, a year from now, it might just punch through and leak again.

Most people dont mess with resealed tanks. It's POTENTIALLY fine. but also potentially not. Just be aware it might not be 100% permanent.

i found the aquarium sealant doesnt work, i had a 20 gallon that i resealed and about 6 months later between 10pm and 6 am it was emptied due to the silicone letting go, I had a breeding pair of angelfish in it.

RIKKI:

There are methods of re-inforcement like getting another piece of glass larger than the the crack and laying it on the crack with lots of sealant between both pieces and around the edges. But in your case being a small tank ,maybe taking it to a pet shop that builds tanks and replace a new sheet and remove the cracked piece or getting a new tank altogether.

boas n pythons probably nailed it.. it wont work for long.. maybe long enough to get a new tank setup and thats still just a maybe.. if i were you id just get a new tank.. its a medium size relitavly inexpensive tank.. and may be more than its worth to get fixed. and use that tank for another herp. just make sure that the crack is covered so not to injure the herp..

a while ago a bought a few 10 gals for really cheap cause there cracked.. just miner but they wont hold water.. i can fix and reseal so they would be fine ( i work for a glass company) but even to me with no cost its not worth it.. cover the crack and put in a herp.. thats all ill do..

i had a 125 gallon crack, my father cuts glass for a living, even with his discount, the 6 ft pane of glass was more than i paid for the whole setup used. i sold it as a terrarium. that was a $400 tank(tank only), the one you have costs about $30 here. with a crack of any kind in glass, your just asking for it to leak again, or even worse, blow out and fill your floor.

Get a new tank, or start keeping a tree frog in it or something.

Just not worth the risk of possible water damage.

Get a new tank for your fish, hands down.
