WEBSITE - your input in final completion.
EVERYONE:
My web designer is back on his feet after dealing with an illness for the last few months and is ready to continue his work on my website. We have lots of ideas and many standard options that are normal on alot of herp related websites. Being this will be my site and herp related I am asking for information, ideas, goods/bads you seen on other herp sites, graphic issues, sound, videos, galleries and so on from the community.
We - Analisa and myself believe being in touch with the community and deciding on the input you all give we can finalize a website that meets everyone' s needs best we can. We are at the moment focusing on only boids - boas and pythons, maybe in years to come we might consider other snakes and reptiles.
We want the site to be informative, business, entertaining, user friendly, graphically appealing, and respectful / tasteful.
Question - Can you please list likes / dislikes on websites you have viewed and would like to see in a new herp website?
Question - Please list websites (both Canadian or American) with url' s, that you find meet your needs?
All ideas are welcome and will help me and my web designer
Thank you all for your help in advance.
Tony

I can't wait to see your website Tony
What I like about breeders' websites are lots and lots of pictures, information about breeding projects, a little blurb about the breeder themselves, easy navigation and a good available page that shows the prices for animals (even for a little while after they've been sold.)
What I don't like are hard to navigate pages, lack of pictures, hard to read information (There's a big breeder with an AMAZING web site, but while they provide tons of info about their projects their paragraphs have 34085747 little '.....' thingies in them... I can't find the proper name for those, sorry... but it's still a great site, just hard to read.
What guarantees I probably won't be back due to seizures:
Stuff falling on the page (cute little snowflakes, rain, hearts, shooting stars, etc.), those things that attatch to your cursor (like a trail of glitter or whatever) and long intros with crazy music...
Just my opinions, as someone who knows crap about computers but likes to look at websites

Heather is right, you can't have too many good pics (that means snake pics ) Clean Simple, and easy to navigate is very important. BUT for me, the most important is an up to date site with working links and current info.

Stuff I like: Everything clean and organized, cool graphics, lots of pictures of whatever you're talking about, and very descriptive descriptions.
Stuff I don't like: Clutter, anything really plain, vague descriptions, and anything with a lot of noise.
The following sites I think are very well put together:
http://proexotics.com/
http://scaleszoo.com/
http://newenglandreptile.com/
--------------------------------------------------------------------
"Don't let this happen to you" sites:

(bright colors, hard to read and everything is smooshed together)

Personally my favourite website from a breeder would be Henry Piorun's site. His wife did an amazing job.

My brother is a website designer and anytime he does a site, it is simple, but effective.
I don't like websites that cram in everything they can fit on the page, and websites that have "too much going on" (if u know what i mean).
I like sites that have good navigation.

While surfing the web and glancing at various breeders sites, I found a no-no

I also agree with Jenn, Henry's site is great, especially the flashing updated thing, it lets you know immediately if theres anything new to check out. One of my biggest peeves with sites is when you click on say, Available Boas and you go to a blank page saying Coming soon.....cant stand that....anyways good luck with yours Tony. Allison

make it clear where you are from ie: CANADA on the front page, I see way to many sites that its almost impossible to figure out where they are from/
