Breeding Tips

I have been attempting to breed my leopard geckos for the past few months. I have tried almost everything that I can find on the subject. Cooling period, sudden introduction by females and male, leaving them together for extended periods of time, increasing photoperiod, etc. The tank is at spring temps as recommended by The Urban Gecko and some other breeders. Nothing has worked. I know that most of you may think that they are not old enough or underweight but all weights, health, age, size are right on target for good breeding geckos. The male is a proven breeder. Any tips on inducing breeding would be very much appreciated. I am not sure what to try next.

Basically they will breed when ready. Mine are being very slow this year and still no eggs! Grrr.....this time last year I had several clutches already incubating. Just be patient and stop fussing with temps and photoperiod and I bet they'll be breeding in no time. After all, woudn't that just figure! lol

Mine took a while to this year as well. The Males were all into it, but the females needed to get to know them a little better first I guess

Keep in mind that being nocturnal lizards you may just be missing the breeding if it's going on in the middle of the night.

mine just started breeding very slow this year as well, don't worry they will breed

Maybe play some soft music?? LOL JK Tim and Julie B are right tho, if the female isn't in the mood, no go. (sounds familiar doesn't it? LOL) I guess you'l just have to wait. Make sure the females have at least 1 prime laying humid chamber. I have 2 per tank in the same area, but i have 3 females per tank too. Maybe make absolutely sure that you have a male. Some people may swear its male when its not. (females can exibit the hemphenal bulges also, but no pores)

Oh BTW my 1 female has laid 4 eggs before any other female laid 2 eggs, so maybe she takes her time?? Dunno, but hope you have good "luck" soon!!

If she's mature enough, rested up from any previous breeding, and he's a proven breeder, they will produce fertile eggs when they're ready, so just sit back and relax. How old is the female? Since she's the one that has the final say in egg production, could she still be too young or even too old to produce eggs?

Mine bred really fast this year..I got eggs on the 31st of Dec.

Just put a male with a female and you should get some eggies

Thanks for all the tips. Both females are almost two years old now and definately in good health. I am sure that you guys are right and as soon as I stop fussing with trying to get them to breed they will on their own. Good to know that there are so many people here to help.

I had eggs this year by Dec. 10th, so I can't say mine were slow. I found that when I put more than one or two humid hides in their enclosure they'd utilize those for breeding, and it gave them a choice of a nice humid enclosure to use. Not to mention my male is a real stud, and well over 70 grams, at 1 1/2 yrs old. Not a giant though.
