Bedding?

It there a particular bedding that I should be using for my dumerils boa? Also, ideas on where to purchase it.
I am currently using newpaper, and it doesn't seem happy.

dumerils should be able to burrow. personally, i use carefresh or its generic equivalent vibrasorb, but there are plenty or other options out there, aspen being one of the most popular.

From alot I read so far Dumerils do fine with something to burrow in be it wood chips, shavings and even a group of towels (messed up to let them dig in). I heard some don' t care really but most people that have these snakes say something to burrow in will be better.

Hope more Dumeril keepers join this thread and give you many options to consider.

i have wood chips and yes she loves to burrow
shes either burrowed or sudmerged in her water bowl with her nose sticking out(so cute)

Dumerils Need to borrow...repti-bark mixed with aspen or either one alone is fine, but bury a few tight hides (hollow logs or tight sweater boxs) in various spots at various temps and humidities.
Don`t be fooled, they need some hight to the enclosure as well, at least 18-20" . to do it right you need about 6" deep as well as fresh water "above" ground...dumerils can get large...I personally know of several over 9ft...they are females, but the males get to 6-7" easily...floor space for these guys should be NO LESS than 6' x 2+' .
also, they will climb, although not to anygreat degree, so some objects would be nice.
These guys are closley related to Madagascar ground boas (only seperated by a few miles or so in locale...you should look up thier natural habitat for further info.

I'd love to see some pics of those big dumerils you're speaking of.. And of those 6-7" Males.

Yes, they have the potential to get large, The largest I have personally seen was a 6.5-7' female.

My two adults are 5' respectivly and I house mine in 4'x2'x1' Melamine cages and use Newspaper as my substrate.. I've had no issues and they produced a litter for me last year..

Well I keep them just like Matt keeps them in a 4x2x1, and newspaper as a substrate and I do produce dumerils as well.
I hve no idea why keeping them like this would seem starnge to anyone..........plus I would love to see a 9 foot dumeril.

I keep my girls large adults on newspaper or Astroturf, recently I tried a mixture of Aspen/Cypress Mulch. The adults don't seem to care much about digging. The neos can be a little sensitive and do like to burrow.

My females are about 6-7FT, as thick as a 2ltr soda pop platic bottle and currently gravid. These pics are about 2 months old, sorry not very good quality pics.

Nice setup, did you build these yourself, or are they store bought?
With the pegboard on the bakc of the cages is it hard to maintain
a good temperature and also what means do you use to heat the
cages? I am getting ready to build a 3 tier cage system and find
yours very nice looking and servicable.

I built these a few years back, I live in FL. Humidity is not an issue here. I use Flex watt tape when needed for belly heat.
