Ummmm not a good idea. If the snake does not want to eat it wont eat.
Plus the mouse could inflict serious wounds if not kill the snake. If feeding live you should be sitting right there watching to make sure nothing happens. We do not need to see anymore dead or dying snakes from rodent wounds.

You can feed however you like. But if you leave a live mouse overnight, something like this might happen.
There is an image of a mouse-chewed ball python here.
Edited to remove picture. Link provided. Sorry if I've offended anyone.

I don't know if this is true, but I have heard that at the time of the picture, THAT snake was still alive :O
rodent lover or snake lover, don't leave a live prey item in with your snake when you aren't around to supervise.

If that's still alive I don't even think I'd let it live long enough to see the gas chamber that would suck so bad.

Umm, not sure where you heard that, but i'm quite certain ball pythons have skulls.
Leaving live rodents in with snakes is a very bad idea however. If you must feed live make sure your know how to do so properly. (Stunned, or at the very least restrained)

srry..oi said they dont have skulls...they do but their skulls arent very thick so it wouldnt be too hard for a mouse to penetrate through it....also i was just saying it could happen anytime.....but i still wudnt leave it in overnight unless i was feeding something smal and it was just a pinkie or hopper...Connor

Your snake has the thermal burn right? If that is the case he probably isn't eating because of stress and by leaving a mouse in there you could be making his over all health worse! Have you taken him to the vet yet to confirm how bad it is and start treatment? I think at this point feeding is the last of your worries.

in my opinion the ONLY way to feed "live food" is to feed live food that is stroked out, unconscious, or immobile.
I just grab a rat by its midsection and smack its head off a table with about 140lbs of pressure. Kills em dead.
The hind legs keep twitching, making a snake think its a rodent in distress (easy kill) and in my experience, snakes like animals like this more than "fully alive" animals....

CamHanna,
Could you please link to that pic from now on instead of posting it directly. It's not something that I, or probably lots of others, enjoy looking at.

hoppers can bite too. nippy little guys, they are. my rule of thumb: if its eyes are open it is not to be trusted. if your snake absolutely refuses to take pre-killed, i'd break the mouse's jaw just to be sure. even if you are there watching, you can't always react fast enough, and safer is better.
