Non stick pans

I have 2 new no stick pans the type that would be used to make bread in. I want to use them for water bowls form my snakes in their enclousers. I did some reaserch first and found lots of info saying not to use non stick pans for birds as it is toxic for them. I assume because a bird would chew and peck at the pan.
My question is, is it safe to use these in with my snakes ?

Might be a dumb question, but I would rather not find out non stick pans can not be used the hard way.

...um, the fumes from nonstick pans are toxic to birds. you never want to have a bird cage close to where you are cooking period.

as far as the snakie---i don't know. i don't think i would use a nonstick pan as a water bowl---just because of the chemical coatings.

hey i would no chance it is it tefflon? like joey sed they use a heck of chemical's to get it to stick would not risk it

The risk with teflon pans to birds is from the fumes that are given off when the teflon is overheated by cooking at high heat. The respiratory system in birds is very sensitive to airborne toxins.

The surface material is safe for use in preparing human food and as long as it is new and not lifting up or separating, there should be no more risk to the snake drinking from them than there is to people eating from them or using them for normal cooking purposes, in my opinion.

Just go to a dollar store and buy the ceramic bowls for cats and dogs (very cheap). They usually have little paw prints or fishies on them, but heck it's just a water dish. Never mess with no-stick and other metals, they are too high risk for reptiles.

I'm actually quite surprised the stuff hasn't been banned yet. It isn't only toxic to birds, but toxic to us as well. It's jsut birds are far more sensitive, hence they have a tendancy to drop dead around it. Lab tests results on rodents have revealed that there is indeed much of a concern involved with cooking with teflon.

For my cookware... I have omly glass (corning ware) and cast iron fryng pans.

Let's not forget.. that "safe for use with humans" means squat. Remeber... there are "safe" levels of asbestos. But nobody will ever convince me that there is such a thing.

Thanks for the replies.

I did do the google search and found lots of nasty information about Teflon. I will not use these.
Time to check out a dollar store and see what I can find that is bigger then the bowls I have now.

Any question that shows a concern for the wellbeing of your pets is not a dumb question. Thing that makes me scratch my head is that humans would use these nonstick pans without hesitation but ask a similar question regarding the use of them for their pets.
