caging

I'm thinking about gettin a new blood. But, since I'm going away to college next year my brother will have to take care of it untill I get back. Space is a big deal to him. What size cage will they need in 6 months, a year, two years, ect... P.S. I'm getting a female black short tail.

Hi there,

Depends what size blood you get. Im assuming its gonna be a baby.

Also, growth rate can depend alot upon feeding and many other factors. So, I'll try to round it out.

Baby stage: I would house a baby in a cage about 1.5'-2' long X 1'-1.5' wide. This could be a shoebox or seater box rubbermaid. If you opt for a smaller cage, I would switch it to something bigger once it hits 2', if you go for a bigger one(which would probably be cheaper in the long run), You can leave it till its 3' long. The next cage could be the permanent cage for a borneo or black blood(Black ST, im assuming you mean a black blood python, but maybe you mean a dark borneo? Anyways as you probably know blacks are the smallest). I would go with something between 3' and 4' long, and about 2' wide. If your snake is big(for a black, like 5ft) go with something 4' x 2' but if it isnt that big, then I would go with something like 3' long x 1.5-2' wide. HTH(hope this helps).

Any other questions just ask.

C.

Yeah, No problem. I know its a short-tail, yeah, but most people hear/say black "blood" more than black ST. I've also heard somone call a dark-er borneo a Black ST so I wasn't sure. Good luck.
