One of these things is not like the other...
Hey everyone.
This past week alone, the MOD's have moved probably somewhere between 5-10 posts advertising parrots for sale. They're amazing looking little critters and everything, but it's getting to be a bit much! Just a reminder:
Quote:
Animals to be advertised are limited to reptiles, amphibians, invertabrates, and feeders

Thanks (it's really hard to find a parrot emoticon...)

Heather, I think part of the problem is that a while back posts about ferrets, sugar gliders, parrots, etc. were usually allowed in the 'other' section.
My guess is that the posts are being made by people who don't come here all that often, and may be unaware the rules have changed. In fact, I know this was the reason in one case.
I don't think anyone's blatantly disregarding the rule. Or, at least not most of them.

You'd be surprised at the amount of "repeat" offenders. :| But hey, either way this post can bring attention to the rule.

Speaking of repeat offenders.. Had someone last night post a Parrot, After they were told they can't post the parrot, they posted a snake with a pic of the parrot stating the price of the bird, but then in the ad said, 'the bird is not for sale'...

Oh, definitely Youkai, I can understand that for sure. I think that rule of allowing some other animals in the classifieds (exotic animals only) was changed because it was up to the moderators' discretion what was really 'exotic' and what wasn't, and it led to many disagreements...so it's easier this way...
But as Marisa said the amount of people who ignore us after being explained the rules and asked not to do it again is very surprising...
So if you don't want it eaten by someones' pet snake, don't put it up for sale

Thats an expensive feeder!
One can feed digital cameras, mini-freezers, parrots, ferrets, sugar gliders, lemurs and rubber boots to their pets all they like, but still can't sell them in the Classifieds

I think mini freezers are okay imo. Because a lot of people will turn them into incubators or mice/rat freezers (like me )

Yeah, freezers were up for debate also, as were cameras...but in the end it was decided that anything not directly related to herps would not be allowed advertised in the Classifieds...

The problem with that is if you allow items on the "edge" of having to do with reptiles, you then have to constantly make choices as to whats going to far and what isn't. It's not really fair to allow some electronics or appliances without allowing others.
It's much more fair, and easier to simply allow what this website is meant for. Reptiles and supplies directly related to them.

Paul- The classifieds are a constantly evolving thing. If people are having a problem with one area of rules, we will most certaintly change them.
If things are going good, then we will not. So no one can say they will never change again.
