Question heat tape

hi somewhere in here someone posted a pic af a rack system and they used heat tape (the canadian type for pipes ) and they cut chanels in the wood to lay the tape in which i thought was an very good idea but myquestion is would you cover the tape with something or just lay the substrate over it iwould think you would have to conver it with something or the rep would dig down a may burn itself but i'm not sure if the heat tape gets that hot or not

so any input would be greatly appreciated thanks

I belive that for a rack system with heat tape, most people have the critters in bins or some sort of simple enclosure. The idea is that you can put muliple enclosures on top of one strip of heat tape. So the heat tape in never in the enclosure with the animal. Which is important because exposed heat tape connections may electocute an animal.
