Herping in Belize/Jamaica/Grand Cayman
Hey everyone...
I'm going on a trip over the holidays to Cozumel (Mexico), Belize (Mexico), Jamaica, and the Cayman Islands...I've already made arrangements to see the sea turtle farms in the Cayman Islands, but thats all I've got so far
Are there any good herping excursions around? What should I be looking for?
Thanks

Yeah, you people with your birthdays right after Christmas are jerks.
If I find one, I'll try and smuggle it back up my shirt for you

Can we please stay on topic here?? I'd expect more out of a moderator..
Heather, Maybe Jordan might be able to help you out with Herping while in Jamaica.. Or perhaps send member Phrasty a PM, as he's located in Jamaica and might be able to help you out as well..

Ooooh, I'm sooo jealous. I have been to everyplace on your list but Belize. Grand Cayman is awesome, you'll have lots of fun. Unfortunately, I didn't go herping when I went to them. I did alot of snorkling and diving though. Grand Cayman rocks!!!! Have FUN and take lots of pics

I've been to Cozumel.. It's an awesome place. If you dive, chances are good you'll see a turtle. At the south end of the island, sorry I don't remember the name, is the only wetland on the island, and is home to the American croc. There are tours you can take to see flamingos and other awesome birds, and a guy who doesn't speak english comes and tosses the crocs some meat.. Very cool. There's also a beach, again, the name eludes me, but it's pretty well known, that's supposed to have boas come and bask on it in the early morning. I never went to check it out, as I'm not a morning person, especially while on vacation! Finally, the spiney-tailed iguanas are everywhere. I saw them on the hotel's fence as well as in gardens on the walk into town. Crocs, turtles and iguanas are all easy on Cozumel. Just ask the person behind the desk about the wetland and beach. If you want a challenge - go for the boas!!!

you found tree boas in ocho rios? thats awesome! please let me know where because this could mean big things. they can be starting new populations up. most of the jamaican boas (E. subflavus) are supposed to be limited to the far west end of jamaica.
