couple leaf tail questions

I bought a pair of lineatus last week and the guy I bought them off of had them together. (male and female ) . They were succseful breeders for him, but i didnt expect them to lay anytime soon. Anywho I was cleaning some cages today and I came to the females cage (i have them seperated now) and she had something in here mouth, So I opened the cage and she was eating her egg. Now the questions. How long can I expect her to keep laying after she is seperated from the male? What is the time span between clutches? and is it normal for them to eat their own eggs? Thx

Concept3, I can't help you with all your questions but I can try! I've done a lot of reading so none of this information I give you is from experience, just from reading caresheets, forums, information and talking to Neil Meister.

I have no idea how long you can expect her to lay clutches, but I know they have around 6 clutches in a season. The time span between clutches is about a month I believe. I have heard of another situtation where a uroplatus (forget species) ate their own egg and when this happens they weren't fertile to begin with. The eggs will be laid in a secluded well hidden spot if they are fertile and if they were infertile they are laid just about anywhere. If you were at the guys house and seen the tank they were in, on the glass there were white smudges everywhere, those were from eggs that she laid on the front of the glass and they were infertile. She could have ate them to replenish her calcium from laying them but I doubt it. Make sure you dust her food with calcium a lot while she's laying these clutches or she will fall ill. That's the best I can do until I have my own experience!

Mike

Like most geckos the females retain sperm you can expect several more clutches on the way every 4-8weeks depending on here reserve and the amount of clutches before.

Congrats you have a proven pair, I'd place the male with the female for a couple nights to insure fetile eggs. If that's your goal. Make sure she has lots of calcium. I've never seen a female eating her own eggs but they were probably infertile and needed an enriched snack. Try snails if you can find some.

Goodluck.

I have never heard of a gecko eating any eggs, but it was probaly for calcium like said above. Try putting your male in with the female and hope for the eggs to be fertile.

Good luck
