possible soft insulation?

Hi, well after building a melamine rack system this past summer, I find that it is not suiting my needs nor is it efficient as far as space is concerned. So, I want to use the same kind of plastic bin racks that I have in my closet, out in the main part of my room. However, the temperature is not as easily controlled in the rest of the room, so I was wondering if there is a type of insulation that I can apply in direct contact with heat tape that would go the length of the plastic rack? This way, I hope to force the heat through the bins instead of allowing some to escape out the back.

Here's a pic of the ones in my closet, so you get an idea of what I'm referring to...




Oh yeah, I use these for terrestrial geckos, so there is no problem with escapes thus far.

Any advice on a type of insulation is much appreciated.

what are the temps of the tape?

I would require a hot side of approx. 90F, which would be located closest to the tape near the back of each bin.

you could take a piece of malimine and glue styro foam insultaion to the back and place it against the back of the unit, just a thought

so there has to be a barrier between the insulation and the heat tape (ie. melamine)? Otherwise, without this barrier it would be a fire hazard?

I guess particle board or something light would work just as well? It would be much lighter in weight.

Just please keep in mind the whole fire hazard thing...

What I'd do is look for a fire resistant expanding foam insulation spray...Look at any major hardware stores
