How thick a branch do you need for ETBs?
Is there a rule of thumb of the branch thickness an ETB would be comfortable on?
Thanks in advance,
E

Edwin.. A branch should be as thick as your snakes body... so wherever your snake is thickest, then a branch of that girth would be the most comfortable for the snake.. well nowone knows for sure.. but that is the rule of thumb most keepers go by! lol

funny you should say "rule of thumb"
that expression was used many, many years ago when men were permitted to beat their wives with sticks no bigger than the width of their thumb

Not totally sure on this, but I think Emmies actually prefer branches that are slightly smaller than their bodies. It may be GTP's though. I can't remember. I read an article by Trooper Walsh and Eugene Bassette ages ago. I think they said something about it, and they are the gurus of tree boids!
Either way, why not povide a choice and watch your snake? Easy enough to do in my opinion.

I said she fell down.. o> , LOL. Silke, I didnt know about the origins of that expression, hope I didn't offend any females out there, wouldnt want them to come after ME with sticks, I bruise easily.
Jeff, thanks for the info. I haven't got an emmie yet, but might early next year. Right now, I am just scavenging for branches before winter. Would you happen to know of a site that shows the different ETB localities? Everyone talks about Basins etc, and I have no clue on their differences.
Thanks!!!

The general rule is to provide one to match the largest part of your snakes girth, but I provide a choice of three sizes - one to match his girth and one a size larger and one a size smaller. I almsto always find him on the smallest one The snake wouldn't choose a branch that doesn't fit him

Jeff, thanks for the link, its very helpful.
Linds, I intend to provide several branches at different heights with varying girth. I was hoping to narrow my branch collection down a little, the girlfriend is complaining that I am trying to build a nest in the closet...
Thanks!!!

the problem with providing differant sized branches is your snake is going to perch on the highest one even if it is a third as thick as his body... before i secured a cord to the roof my my cages the snakes would be perched on the cord 9 out of 10 times i came into the room... its instinct for them to perch on the highest perch in the cage..
