Snake is wheezing
I have a Brazilian Rainbow, but I post here because no one ever answers in the other boards. He was wheezing earlier in the summer before I went off to school so we got him treated for an Upper Respiratory Infection. While I have been off to college he has been moved into a nice new enclosure and has become very active now. I just got home for the Thanksgiving break and I noticed him wheezing again. Has anyone ever heard of a snake just having a wheezing and still being healthy? I mean he is active as far as I can see so he doesnt appear to be sick. I am just wondering if he may still have that URI. We took him to a vet the first time and he gave us shots to give to him ever like 3 days and we did that but I am just hoping he doesn't still have the URI.

well to get a reliable answer you will have to post a couple things. what kind of enclosure? (rubbermaid/aquarium) what is the humidity? what are your temps at? By the sounds of it he has another RI or maybe the first one was never fully cured. By any means their is somthing wrong with your husbandry If he is getting RI's and If you explain your husbandry to us we can help figure out whats wrong/

He is being kept in a 4x2x2 enlcosure we built and the humidity was good for a while but the humidifier broke so we are going to get a new one soon. The temperatures are around 80. I have a moist hide to help get the humidity right for now until we replace that humifier.

What's the enclosure made of? What was the humidity before?
Brazilians need high humidity, lack of which leads to RI's, which was what I was getting at.

its wood but coated with resin to keep water tight, but its probably from the lack of humidity, we use to have it around 80 or 90. If I get it back up will it go away or will it take another vet visit?

How long as the humidifier been broken?
Why not just put the snake into a rubbermaid, you could keep the humidity up that way for now...
Maybe someone else can help you with the RI itself.

If your cage is built properly, you shouldn't need a humidifier.

I agree with what Jeff said. It's not a humidifier you need it's correct husbandry. Use the proper measuring devices so you know exactly what your cage temp and humidity are and then adjust accordingly.
To answer you original question, no healthy animals do not wheeze. He was wheezing before and the vet diagnosed it with an RI and treatment was started. If it wheezing again I think it's obviouse what is going to happen again. Back to the vet treatment starts over again.
Cheers,
Trevor

I agree with everyone above, and would also like to add, 80 is too cold. Your boa needs a gradient of mid 70's to high 80's to function properly. Good luck getting things back on track
