BRB temperaments?

I've only had my BRBs for two weeks, adult female and 1.1 yearlings.

They're surprisingly snappy. All three went for me tonight. The first two calming down once I got them out of the cage to clean, but the third little one nailed me twice on the return trip to her cage.

It's kind of turned me off of doing any more cleaning tonight heh.

Still, they're awesome looking snakes. I hope my BCIs don't get that snappy though

I wouldnt worry. They usually calm down quite a bit. When I got my little BRB it snapped all the time at anything that moved. But now everytime I reach into get her she just investigates and doesnt bite anymore.

Mike, I really don't think they'll ever calm down! In fact, before you get harmed, you better give them to me!

Hahaha Funny Corr :P

The big mama was fine once I held her. The neat thing was that before I picked her up she completely ignored my hand movement and went right for the face.

I made a hook from a shovel handle and a screw-in-wall hook I found at the dollar store, but it's got a rubber sheath and is pretty crappy. I'll strip off the rubber and use some fine grain sandpaper to improve it.

It's interesting to see how they'll make their own cage humid as heck without intervention on my part. They've got huge water bowls so the water has a lot of surface area to create humdity, and they'll get good and wet and soak the newspaper, then settle down.

There's a nice stack of melamine in the corner of my living room that's being turned into permanent cages this week, as opposed to rubbermaids. I'm thinking of going the natural-vivarium route.

I was thinking of using a sleeve of corrugated plastic in the bottom of the cages because they'll be a lot more wet than the other specimens. If it works, I'll post

Some never calm down. Both of mine were snappy and even now almost two years later I don't fully trust the female.
Cheers,
Trevor

I am a BRB "Newb", but I have 2 yearling males and a long term captive female. My boys were nippy until they were 2-2.5 feet. Nippy meaning when picking them up / cleaning the cage. They are both 100% trustworthy now, and any fast moves are feeding related, not agressive. As soon as they realize my hand is not a rat, they are cool.
My female is just a bit under 7 ft and is a sweetheart. She is active when out of the enclosure, but not at all aggressive.
Give them some time. One of my males is a little more *hyper* than the other, but still quite calm. I thinks handling, even if just for a little while a day will help the younger ones not equate the cage opening with a meal.

Enjoy

BT

ps. How's Pariah / Dark Sector coming along? HL2 is killer!

I have some (about 6) that are absolute terrors, no matter how much handling they got. I have others (about 14) that are just fine. I also have 20 babies and they are all terrors except 2, and I NEVER handle them.

ALL are individuals as far as I have experienced. And I've experienced a LOT of Rainbows, LOL!

The odd thing is that the female was fine when I took her out of her rubbermaid, but when I went to get her out of the temp container is when she went nuts. She struck at me probably five times before connecting on my pinky.

What a sweety

Meanwhile I can take either of the ball pythons out and they'll just droop on me and suck up heat. Or the BCIs will curl up in my hand and stay there for two hours.

My friend got a BCI from Chappy (Nick) that will hang herself over the neckline of his shirt and not move for the entire day. He's been working along and suddenly she'll yawn and he'll practically wet himself because he forgets she's there.

I got one from him at the same time and they're great snakes. Totally relaxed, although they like to rest their chins on the top of my nose, and it's a little weird seeing this outstretched neck coming toward you out of the corner of the eye

As for Pariah, it should be in stores over the winter. DS is still a ways off

edit: And as for Half Life 2, I returned it today. Couldn't stand that bloody CD check that Vivendi put on the DVDs. Since I want to play HL2 and let the kid play HL:S and CS:S, the cd check stops both of us from being able to play the different games. So I'm just going to get the same package on Steam instead. The backup to DVD option is still buggy apparently but by the time I need it, it should be stable.

Hi Jeff! How are things out West?

I agree, from my very limited experience that BRB's are real characters. The little ones I have were snappy, but have turned out to be really calm. I figure as a breeder, you have very little time for individual snakes.

My adult female is just a good natured animal, dare I say *smart*?

Cruciform: We seem to have the same ratio of BRB's. Lets compare notes as they / we progress!

ps: I bought 1/2 Life on Steam. I hate it <Steam>, but figured best conform or be cast out. It works and is a fantastic game.

Mike, I guess I've been lucky so far with my rainbows... both of them were totally docile, even as babies. My female was about 10 months old when I got her, but my male was only about 2 months old -- I don't think either of them ever struck at me once, even to this day. I know that a lot of babies are nippy though -- and that some adults never seem to outgrow that phase. Hopefully your little ones will

Once HL-2 is setup, just play the game in "offline-mode", then you don't need to log onto Steam. As for CS, yeah, just like any other software, you can't play the same game online at the same time on different machines. Try that with ANY game (legally, not cracked) and you'll get an invalid CD-key error because someone is using that same key.

Bill, buddy, they ARE smart man! Super smart for a boa. Why do you think I got you hooked on them bro!

The problem wasn't the Steam authentication though, it was just that the game required the DVD in the drive, an issue when you have three different titles on the disk, and two people want to play two different games.

This is a schizophrenic thread

I love my BRBs! (staying on topic)

There's that great feeding response! :flick: LOL at least half my snakes will nail me if I just reach my hand in front of (or anywhere around) them while they are in their cage. For those ones, I just hook them now or use some sort of 'sheild'. BRB are definitely more active than most snakes when being held, and no matter how calm they get, they enver lose that super death grip of theirs My rainbows ended up being fine eventually, but would strike at people around you while being held. My male actually was named Tagz because I had never taken so many hits in such a short time. He would just continuously bite me while being held... I could easily take 10 - 15 hits in a 5 minute span Only took him a few months to calm down though.
