How long do you keep them in the BIG SLEEP?

if everything goes well 90 days to 110 depends on how they do if i note any problems then i bring them up from the big sleep. Ie breathing problems etc.

Nice to give them all a nap and get a rest for yourself and the feeding bill. I actually find that brumation is a great time to take pictures - they are slower because they are cooler. Not sure they appreciate it, but I try to avoid using the flash and get some of my best pics when they are cooling.

Best of luck with all of them,

mary v.

I cool my monitors and find it gives both them, and me, a break. By the time spring comes around I really miss them! It's not as though I hide them away anywhere, either, but they aren't their active selves and just spend the days lying around (the female usually disappears into a hollow log and doesn't re-emerge for five months).

Im not going to breed or anything, but how do you cool them?? Do you just put them in a rubbermaid not heated?

no i put my snakes down only after three weeks with out food and give all of my snakes a worm bath in a small rubber made to help them releave them selfs. than they go into the inselated room in the bastment with the only light is a red one so i can see and dos not bug the nakes. I turn down the heat over a week to ten days untill it get 55 degreas farenhiet . I keep a small watter dish with them all the time as thay will still move around a little and drink but not large enough to get totaly wet . After sixty to 80 days i start the heat back up and bring them up from ther winter sleep over a weeks time . after the snakes are up and moving around i start to feed again small meal half the normal size they would normaly take for the first three meals. then back to normal feeding ,after they shed i start to put the femals in with the males and keep a close eye on them . hope this helps Paul and Gloria Big Hill Reptiles
