herping punta cana
I'm not sure if thats how you spell it or not, but its the big vacation spot. It's something like punta cana. I will be going there in June/July for my sister's wedding. What can i expect to find for herps down there, and can anybody recommend a field guide for the area? Thanks a lot
Geoff

I was in Punta Cana in the winter of 2001.
The whole time I was there all I saw were anoles as well. When I talked to people at the resort, there wasn't any available tours where we could have time to stop and turn over some logs and rocks. But the anoles are all over the place!
If you swim, and enjoy wildlife all together, take some time to get into the water and snorkle....you'll see all kinds of great things!

Hey, I went to Playa Dora last winter, which is in northern dominican. I took a tour to the large freshwater lake in the central region. (forget the name) I saw caimens, Rhinocerons (sp) Iguanas, green iguanas, a pond slider and the dominican parakeet.
(be prepared for a long expensive trek)

I was in Punta Cana a year or two ago and I had an awesome find. I was looking along the edge of a building and sitting under a bush was a juvenile rhinocerous iguana! Aside from that some anoles and an unidentifeid gecko (I think) were the only other finds.

Dan:
Did you mean the overall trip was expensive or the tour?
