Metallic Ratsnake

Anyone in Canada have these, or anyone EVER have these? I'd like to know more about them. I would pay a good amount, and go pretty far to get some of these for myself.

Seen on this website:

BTW I realize these are simply somewhat of a local of Baird's rat snakes right? But I am talking about specimens like above.

Thanks

I think Vivid's stock are from Val Verde Co. Exemplary specimens of a beautiful species. So far I've only seen Vivid's stock looking as metallic.

Edit: Or it might have been Bandeira Co. Damnit, Katt's got me 2nd guessing.

How would I go about getting them though? LOL

I have never ever seen a snake I wanted enough to get from the USA until these guys, so I have never ever looked into it. They are low cost, so I guess maybe the expense of it might not be worth it, but I think it would be worth it to me. I'll start searching now for that info! lol

Might have to ship em to the border and drive em across. There was someone on ssnakess who got a Blue Eyed Blonde Calking from them. Might wanna check with them. Was it snakelet?

Another one of my favorites. Blue Eyed Blonde Cal Kings. Wow these people are going to keep me awake tonight.

Sounds like it could be difficult unless you know someone near the border, or know of a place they can be shipped right near the border, I guess driving to the nearest airport across the border is what you mean?

I don't think anyone has Vivid's stock up in Canada, but I think they're pics are a bit I don't know, not really true to live. I have seen pics of Vivid's animals (but not taken by Vivid) and they don't have that metallic look that Vivid's pics has.

Baird's are pretty metallic looking, Bandera/Val Verde locale or not. Their grey isn't grey, but steely almost. Have you seen adults baird's in the scale before?

Plus any baird's taken in natural light the grey is really silvery.

What's really nice about Vivid's stock the colour in the interstitials.

I suggest taking a look at mexican baird's too. WOW.

Have you ever had a look at Blotched Kingsnakes?!?! They look amazing... I have to say that these ''metallic'' baird's are also stunning... It was the first time i ever saw one of them...

There is an amazing picture of someone's metallic rat from Vivid on queensnake somewhere in the corn forums. The pics are just amazing. But yes maybe a trick of great photos.

I have not seen any adult Bairds...they have never really interested me. I wish I had been looking now though.

Vivid has a nice collection of different stuff. I just wish some was in Canada.

I will look up Mexicans right now, thanks

Hey Marisa,
I got a pair of blue-eyed blonds from Vivid this summer, what a pain in the butt that was.. Basically I had them shipped to an airport in Montana that had delta dash and then drove across the border to pick them up. It's really not too bad, if you live close enough to a major city in the US that the drive is not too long. At the time, I was about 9 hours away from the nearest major city, so it was a bit of a pain for me. In hindsight, I really wish I had picked up some of their Metallic Rats at the time.

Oh, also if you decide to import, make sure you call the border stop where you will be crossing back ahead of time. They need to okay it with an actual person in Vancouver or something, which I did not know at the time. Obviously there was no problem shipping Cal Kings across, but the folks working there seemed to think I was smuggling some sort of venomous snake into Canada :P

Good Luck!

Why is it o.k. to drive them over, but not just simply fly them into Canada? Anyone care to waste some time explaining that to me? lol :P

Technically the rules are the same for either case - more details in the links below - but you must be an exporter with permit from US Fish and Wildlife to legally remove 'wildlife' which includes captive bred reptiles from the US. For this reason, and the hassle and expense to get the required inspections done by US Fish and Wildlife, very few American vendors will ship to Canada. They will ship to a US location and leave it to the Canadian to get their animals across.

Canada has very open regulations over what comes into the country. If you were to drive accross, you are not inspected by the Americans because you are leaving their country. When you are inspected coming into Canada - they are only concerned with you paying the GST, once they know that the reptiles do not fit in any restricted category (CITES and turtles). You are violating American law by driving reptiles accross the border unless you complete the required inspections and paperwork to bring those animals out. Not sure how many people get caught or what the repercussions would be if you were, but I do know that US breeders won't take that risk by shipping out without covering the costs.

Roy has a lot of info on this in other posts - there is a link to them here

Those Bairds are gorgeous, BTW!!
