how do canadians keep tortises in the winter?

I am always curious to know how other canadians w/ our not so warm winters (or anywhere with not so warm winters) keep their tortises happy over the winter.

if its a young turtle I would suggest indoors for the first 3-4 years but that is my suggestion also some turltes aren't used to the cold weather and should be housed indoors

and if there are a hibernating species than you can take a chance on out door hibernation (but I heard Basement Hibernation would be alright too)

I have a indoor pen for winters and outdoor for the summer months hope that help a bit Im still a beginner

I am more thinking of how to convert an indoor area to make the tortises as happy as possible (especially after they got to roam around outside all summer)

I keep my russian indoors all year round, and in the summer ill take him out once in a while to get some high quality uvb.

They dont get that big though so its easy to keep them indoors with plenty of space to roam.
