live pinks

At the petstore I volunteer at (for work experience), they have a little corn snake that they say hasn't been eating. They talked to the breeder, and they were told to put it in a dark container with live pinkies... so that's what they did, and the corn got two pinkies down that way.

There are a lot of different ways that I think should have been tried before resorting to live... but what's done is done. Will it be a problem getting it to go back to f/t? Or now that it's had live, will it not want to go back?

Just a question out of curiousity, and perhaps an excuse to get this guy for myself so he doesn't end up with someone who will have him on live mice his whole life without knowing the risks. I'd give any buyer the info myself, but I'm only there til this Friday. Maybe it's not a problem at all, just thought I'd see what you guys have to say.

Thanks much

If that corn is eating live pinks, I don't see the problem! I'd be more than happy if all my corns always started on live pinks.

Get that snake established on a few live pinks before messing around with it. You don't want to put it off feed so soon in it's life.

An estasblished animal, especially an easy one like a crn, usually will switch to f/t, but I suggest you get a bit of growth on it first.

My corn snake was always fed live pinkies at the pet store I got it from. For the first 3 feedings I feed my corn live and the first f/t pinky I offered was eaten in an instant! So I think there shouldn't be a problem getting your corn to feed back on f/t.

It shouldn't be a problem to get him switched over whenever you choose too.

The important thing at this stage is to get the snake eating SOMETHING... live, f/k, f/t.... whatever. Don't worry. I would bet that if the snake were fed 4 or 5 live meals in the next month, it will start eating frozen with little effort.

Sometimes they just won't start out on frozen/thawed.
