Newspaper Substrate

Just wondering, for those of you who use newspaper as a substrate do you only use the pages that are black and white, or use the coloured pages as well. Not sure where i read it but i read that the ink in the newspaper could harm the animals or something like that.

Most newspapers are printed with vegetable based inks so I am not concerned with the coloured inks.
I like to give my herps access to the editorial page now and then to give them the chance to keep up on current events

I try to just use the black & white pages, because I have seen the color come off of the colored pages and literally stain my snakes. One of my BCI had a blue ink mark on his head until he shed it off. I couldn't even wash it off.

I use both as well. Ink marks tend to come with the territory. Albeit I've never had coloured ink stains, mostly just the black ink making snakes look dirty. LOL... just a little while ago when I went to package up and ATB for pickup, took him out to find he had smudges on the bulges of his head and nose As mentioned already, it's all supposed to be vegetable-based dyes these days, unlike the oil-based dyes they used to print papers with.

I use both as well, although I havent recently chaned to the paper doctors use on their exam tables. Its more absorbant and can be cut to perfectly fit most cages.
I highly reccomend trying it.

I use both as well. The smaller colored adds work well for the smaller snakes cages. TB
