Feeding Pics

Hershey enjoying a rat

And constricting it

She has an excellent feeding response, I am amazed!

Going to try her on a small rabbit soon, see how she likes that

LOL...naw I breed hairless rats as well as other varieties of coat types. This one was a retired breeder, still in great shape but Hershey needed to eat

Great shots. Out of curiosity, what made you decided to breed hairless rats? I find them kinda repulsive, lol. Such odd looking little rodents. Are they totaly hairless or do they have a little "peach fuzz" on them?

They are totally hairless. I bought them about a year ago to add to my breeding stock (I breed for pets as well). I was grossed out by them initally, however I had 2 nudes born in a litter of satins and rexes. So, I kept them, and bought 2 unrelated new ones, and have some great rats now. A new litter, about 2 weeks old and running around playing, have haired, and hairless. Great looking babies

If you were to breed a hairless with like a normal rat, would you get half hairless, and half normals...or would you get hairless, normals and like..."less-hairy" rats? lol (forgive me for the odd questions, i have a very active mind haha)

Breeding rats is similar to breeding herps. If you breed a normal haired rat (called a standard coat) to a hairless rat, you will get all haired babies that carry (HET) hairless. They can carry these genetics without you even knowing (I have siamese that pops up in many litters, but my pedigrees don't mention it in the last 6 generations).

If you breed what is called a rex (curly fur) to a hairless, you might end up with double rex (curly fur that falls out and regrows in patches).

There are soooo many different colors, coats, eyes and ear types There used to be an awesome genetics calculator that would help you figure out what you will get with various pairings.

Our hairless are primarily carriers of Blue, Siamese, and PEW (Pink Eyed White, aka Albino). But I also have Lilac, Agouti, Black, blazed, odd-eyed, various dumbos, etc. Each litter is a surprise, as I mix up the pairings to get new mixes.

Any other Q's, feel free to ask (maybe in a PM so that we stay on Boa subject, lol).
