My males seem to be picky right now. But I am not sure if it's "starting" already or not. Could just be a slump or coincidence. And I also have only two young males.

My 14 month old male last ate around 9/10 and 8/7 before that. I open the lid and he just ignores the food and tries to hightail it out of the tank looking for a girlfriend. Gotta love ball pythons!

Ya, its not uncommon for a ball to shutdown completely or slow dow on feeding. It can start Sept-Nov, but it actually really varies according to the animal. And ya, they can lose wieght. However if they were fed well before the "off season" and have decent girth/wieght they can easily go 4-8 months or longer as long as their hydrated. 1 of mine goes roughly 3-4 months the other goes 3-5 months with no ill effects and start feeding Feb-Mar. for me. Sometimes as late as early April.

My male has already shutdown on Sept 22 and the female shutdown Oct 2nd. Early to fast for me this year. Both usually shut down in early or mid Nov.
