Talking Don't Call Me Normal

Ok, ok, he is a normal and I've posted pics of him before but I just can't get enough of this guy. We have other normal boas but this guy is the least normal. lol!

I thought about posting some of shots of this guy because someone else posted some pink normals recently... can't remember which thread it was now but I think this one looks like he could be a cousin. lol! I'm thinking about picking up a pastel or hypo female to add to his harem.

I'm not a boa guy, but he's a beaut. I like how smooth and light the coloration is, congrats.

Definitely a pastel. Nice pink, washed out medallions, redused black pigment. You got yourself a winner.

Technically, the pastels ARE just pretty normals. But because of their different coloration from a "standard" normal, Jeff Ronne coined the term 'pastel' to signify it.

After reading pages and pages of Jeff Ronne trying to put "pastelism" into words I've learned that it is not a recessive trait and not a co-dom either but more of a selectively bred look.

You're not the first person to call this guy a pastel but many more have said he is not because of the amount of black in the tail. Me, I don't know, I'm no expert on the subject but he was sold to me as a normal baby.

The other thing I've learned by reading Mr. Ronne's account of pastelism is that it is a highly subjective term and the words he uses to describe them can be equally applied to hypos and some normals.

It's confusing but when it comes down to it if I'm buying an animal that is not displaying a recessive or co-dom, I will pay the price I'm willing to pay based on my own criteria no matter what name a seller decides to call it. I just want the babies to be as pink as I can make them... yes, it's all about the pink. lol!

Yes, he's getting his first piece of tail this year with this girl that I got from Paul... uhmm, Kingston Paul. lol!

I'm putting the bunnies to her for now to prepare her... it's nearly that time.

That's one very un-normal looking normal you've got there He's a beauty, for sure -- congrats, and best of luck with him & his girlfriend!

Paul,

No I don't think I'm ready to sell her back just yet. lol! She is looking good these days though and likes to eat (really likes to eat!) so I can't say I blame you. We're so anxious to see babies from these two, it should be interesting. The wait will be agony.

Linds,

Hey don't you have a normal that looks something like our boy? I just have an image in my head of a pink boa that looks a bit like ours in a very distinct wooden cage that I thought was yours, but maybe it was someone else..?

Is this the pic you were thinking of?

<img src="http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/508/22chasey1-med.jpg">

Most recent pic from spring of this year...

She's my female... my male is shaping up to be the same way, but is half her size at just over 3'.

Yes, the first one is the one I was thinking of for sure, she looks like she could be his sister. lol! Do you know who bred her by any chance?

Our guy is from a pet store, believe it or not he's the first boa I'd ever held in my hands and a total impulse buy. Had to have him, but the downside to that bit of dumb luck is that I have no idea who produced him. I'll never know I guess but they look a lot alike and are probably around the same age and we live in the same part of the province... who knows?

Sister or not, I think our guy would really like to get her number, maybe go out for a drink sometime... you know. Haha.

That male is sweet too, I really like the tight pattern and it looks like some fused tail blotches... very nice. I hope they turn out some nice, clean, pink little ones for you.
