Exclamation Help!!!

My BP started to finish his actual shed last night before I went to sleep when I woke up this morning he had used the bathroom and was shedding in patches.... this is our first shed together and I was not expecting a perfect shed but the problem is when I took him out of his enclosure and put him in his other smaller enclosure to soak in shed ease I noticed a red mass of some sort popping out of his vent... I have no idea what this is being that this is my first BP so I cannot tell if this is normal to see once an a while or if my BP is in serious trouble and needs to be taken to the vet as soon as possible. Can some one please tell me what this is and how or if I need to do anything to treat this problem. Could this have been caused by his skin staying on last night while I was sleeping and it just stuck out of his body in his shed?

Sounds like a prolapse. Definitely needs veterinary attention asap. Keep it moist and clean, if it dries out the tissue will become necrotic. You can also apply a sugar paste (warm water and sugar) to the prolapse, sometimes this will cause it to retract. Good luck with your little guy, and let us know how it turns out!

Key there is paste, should be a bit thick, but make sure sugar isnt too grainy still. Id use a Q-tip and just dab it on. May need to repeat that a couple of times (keep it from drying out if possible), but if it doesnt get better, vet. Im not sure how long to give it to get better on its own. Perhaps Linds or someone else could answer.

Good luck-

Artemis

I've heard that prolapses can happen due to dehydration. Not sure if this is the case with your snake or not without knowing the history.
