insense/candles
Just wondering, is burning insense or candles in a room with a snake harmful to the animal? I just moved my corn into my room, and realized that it may not be a good idea for me to burn candles and such.....something I do a lot.
Thanks

Snakes have an inherent fear of fire, and smoke, and burning incense you do so, it will probably freak them out, so I would say keep the snake in a different room, or stop burning the incense. Candles on the other hand I burn, and they dont produce as much smoke, but I would still keep the candles away from the BP enclosure when I burn them.
Hope this helps-
Artemis

I wouldn't worry too much. I've burned incense quite a bit and no ill effects to my herps. Most of them are lizards, just one snake, he's quite mellow and doesn't really care about anything.

I can't imagine that incence is a very good thing to be burning in the same room as any pet. It makes me sneeze something fierce, so I don't want to expose my pets to it.
Candles wouldn't be too bad, as long as the smoke trail after blowing them out was extinguished.

Candles have been known to kill birds.
Incense is pretty aggrevating to the lungs, it is after all a smoke, and quite a number of snakes (colubrids) have only one functioning lung.

Yes Aidan but we do it to ourselves on purpose. Hell I chainsmoke Camel lights, but ya know, its my choice (and a hideous addiction). I don't smoke in my house, because that would mean the snake, and more importantly my child, WOULDNT have a choice.

reptiles and cented candles.
Are cented candles dangerous around reptiles. I know that you can't burn them with birds around but what about reptiles?

but also, herps are actually far more sensitive to smoke than mammals are. they die of smoke inhalation rather quickly.
