Chinese Cave Gecko

i got this guy about 2 months ago and as cool as he is, he is very , very shy. i dont see too many around and was wondering if anyone else here has any Goniurosauras experience? i dont understand why they arent more common as they are easy to care for and are pretty cool looking.. at least IMHO.

Reason is they are too shy.

If you give them the right conditions, wich means a very dark and secluded hiding spot, they will stay there all day and come out only at night.

Ours have a large cave dug in the earth and they love it there, so we hardly see them.

BTW. You setup look pretty dry.. I'd increase humidity alot if I were you. They love 75% and up..

A mix of earth, peat moss and sand kept humid is a great substate for them.

good luck with him.

i did hear that they do like it rather moist so i do spray him down 2x daily. his substrate is jungle mix with sand as per the instructions of the pet store guy. they seem pretty good for petstores as they specialize in herps and fish only but who knows... i have noticed that he hardly ever comes out, but i hadnt realized that it was a trait of theirs. i actually got to handle him a little bit the other nite as he was out when i went into the room to give him some crix. he seemed ok with it, but definitely not as happy as our leo.
nothing can coax them out any more?

Spraying is required, but I wouldn't say it's enough.

I also spray twice a day but I also leave a dripper a couple of times a week to be certain that their soil stay humid at all time.

You'll know when he sheds if you have the right humidity.

Not to bash "pet store guys".. cause some are good, some are bad and some are really bad, I'll never put them in the same basket. But.. it's your choice.. you can listen to someone who knows a little about 200 different species that will give you the big lines without going into details or you can listen to someone who tries to learn the most he can about is 10 species and breeds them with success.

At the end, you decide.
