My order from Roy Stockwell arrived today!

These Oscillated Skinks are my new class pets! The students can't wait to see a lizard that will eat and thrive on cat food!

To give you an idea of how small these things are I placed my university grad ring in the background.

Thanks for looking,
Trevor

Sounds like you know something I don't. Where did you get your information from?
Cheers,

Trevor, you must be the coolest teacher in the school. Hopefully, I can do some of the same things you are doing when I become a teacher.

Kevin, why do you mention fruit? There seems no reason for this desert species to be eating fruit. Definitely not morphologically capable of crunching any desert "fruits". Certainly non have been known to eat fruits in the wild. You might be confusing these skinks with another skink species.

Edit: Trev, you're not alone! Got a few of Unkie's babies at home too! Certainly the most charming lizards I've ever owned! Your kids will love them!

If they are anything like legless lizards, which share the same sknk face - then catfood seems to be what keeps them alive for a long time.

Roy bred them - I think following his advice would be the way to go.....

Again, how do you know this? Every time someone offers me advice I question it and check it out for myself. If you can't tell where you read this or that you've done it for yourself should you really be telling people to do it? What I'm saying is I would like to know how you "know".

That's what I was thinking Ryan. He been breeding almost as long as I've been a live.

Well there are only 4 of us. lol But yes, I am.lol When you become a teacher my advice is get a feel for your Principal and ease the school comunity into herps slow.

Jim,
When you going to come for a visit? Nothing like seeing them in person. Grab a few other herpers and car pool.
Cheers,
Trevor

I have read in numerous books that most small skinks accept fruit, not very much at all, but you could try.....maybe this species won't?

Trevor:
I was told they would eat some fruit by a member on another wesite

When I was in school the closest we got to a classroom pet was the leather in the strap.

Your skinks look great, Trevor. Congrats on the new babies.

Sweet! I've been looking for a few good skink books but can't seem to find any. Can you share some of those titles with me please. So far all the care info I've read only talks about bugs and dog and cat food.
Cheers,
Trevor

I was just reading that the closest thing to a pet in school is a goldfish?! Last year before i graduated highschool, all my teachers were asking me to bring in my collection, as well as one of the local elemtary schools. So this year i hope i will be doing more educational veiws.....as i think the kids really benifit from it, and my snakes dont seemed to get too stressed.
