40g Rat for 4 month old bp??

Hey everyone just had a quick question. My roughly 4 1/2 month old bp has been eating large mice for a while now so this week i decided to try and switch him over to rats. I bought a 40g rat which seemed to be a decent size. He didnt take it at first but with a little encouragement he did. My question is, is that size rat too big for him?? He didnt seem to struggle with it but just the way his neck and mouth looked was painful to me. He seems to be fine and it only took at 15 minutes for him to eat the whole thing. Any advice would be great..................

Don't worry a 40 gram rat should be just fine. I had a few hatchlings start on F/T adult (30 - 35 grams) mice and they were on to 40 gram rats by their 4th or 5th meal.

If he ate it, didn't regurg it and isn't dead, it's a good size.

You should find out what your snake weighs. I weigh my bp before each meal, then I weight the food item. Gives me a good idea of how much food was converted into weight between sheds.

My 1100 gram bp gets 150 gram (approx.) rats. She could probably take bigger, but she is a consistent feeder with this sized prey, as opposed to oversized but still eatable prey.
