this is a BIG meal



i found this picture on the web and i can hardly beleive it. is it just me or does that rabbit seem WAAYY too big for that black rat? maybe this is normal, but it looks insane!!

Personally, it looks photoshopped to me.
Notice the shading change in the front 1/3 or so of its body once it has ingested the snake. Also, in the middle picture, something looks a little off about the front end of the snake.

I don't like the snake's head on the second pic, i say it is fake... Rat is way too big, it would have probably killed the snake if it didn't throw it back out...

its not a rat, its a rabbit. the snake is a black rat snake. now that yall mention it, it does look kinda shopped. when i first saw it i was like whoa!! it came from a website called http://snakesandfrogs.com

It could be edited, but probably not - I can't say for certain so I would give the photographer the benefit of the doubt. I have seen this type of thing happen in the wild plenty of times but only rarely get to photograph it >> See link below:

This is what happens when the skin is stretched, you see the same thing in all snakes when they are ingesting a meal. The skin stretches, the scales separate, and the pattern and colours all become skewed and appear lighter.
Check out the size of this Leopard Frog compared to the Neonate Water Snake that is eating it. Notice the white and black striping that occurs when the skin is stretched - the snake normally appears brown and black (as can be seen in the last photographs). Note: these are my pictures and they are definitely not edited...

secoond picture does look funny to me but i cant see it very well, its not close up enuff. I think its real though
