It could be edited, but probably not - I can't say for certain so I would give the photographer the benefit of the doubt. I have seen this type of thing happen in the wild plenty of times but only rarely get to photograph it >> See link below:

This is what happens when the skin is stretched, you see the same thing in all snakes when they are ingesting a meal. The skin stretches, the scales separate, and the pattern and colours all become skewed and appear lighter.
Check out the size of this
Leopard Frog compared to the Neonate Water Snake that is eating it. Notice the white and black striping that occurs when the skin is stretched - the snake normally appears brown and black (as can be seen in the last photographs). Note: these are my pictures and they are definitely not edited...
