Question

Will raising a borneo blood help me to learn about taking care of much bigger snakes like the burmese

Any snake experience is helpful. Even if you start with a corn... Everyone has to start somewhere.

My question for you is; Is it your goal to raise a burmese someday? Burms are considered 'high-maintenance' for their large size, eating requirements and space needed to keep them. You also have to keep up certain humidity levels, and basking temps.

My guess is that a Blood will help you learn how to care for snakes in general, and someday you'll be ready for a larger species like a burm, and that's going to be a new experience.

By then, you'll already know how to care for and deal with smaller species so taking care of a burm is basically the same (with a few species-specific details) on a much larger scale.

Take your time and get a lot of practice with different species, large and small, before you decide a large constrictor is for you. They are a huge commitment (no pun intended). Hope my ramblings helped!! =)

Bloods can be a pain is the ***. They can be very aggressive, and suage spewers. That being said they can also be really great snakes to work with. The do get to be a decent size, around 10ft. or so. They are very heavy bodied and have specific needs. Humidity is crucial for them. What is your current level of experience with snakes? Starting smaller maybe a better idea.

Never seen a 10' blood... 6' is more like it, 8' MAX depending on ssp.

Borneos are rather calm and max out at 5-6'. Being heavy bodied they are quite difficult to handle at times. But they are great to work with, we have a pair.

Mark O'Shea lists them at 6-10ft. . I believe Pro-Exotics has too. While I haven't seen one myself that big, it is possible.

Take the time to respond to the question and provide advice, instead of nit-picking over little details... sheesh... LOL =)
