very distraught!

I was showing my daughter's friends the herps to day in the basement and when we came to one of my female bts cages the door had been opened and she escaped. She had to have done it herself, I was just in there last night feeding leos and she was in her cage! My daughter was not in the basement all day and she would admit if she had been playing in the cage. So, I'm thinking she must have got the door open herself, it is sliding glass and it opens pretty easily. She has been housed in that cage for over a year though and this is the first time she has gotten out.

We can't seem to find her eithor. We have looked in all the corners, anything we could look under, all the dark places.... I'm really worried about her, she is so dear to me. I put out a heat mat on low incase she getts drawn to the heat. She is about 3 years old and well over 800 grams. She is a big enough girl she should be easily found but we can't seem to find her. This is a basement after all, not completed and a mess in a couple corners. I'm going to look for her again in a few hours. Is there anything else I can do? Should I leave food out for her? I just can't believe she got her cage open!!

Sorry tro hear it, my sav escaped once, mind you in a much smaller room. I layed him out a bowl of eggs and soon there after he found his way to the eggs and I was there to meet him, he had crawled under my entertainment center which seemed to small for him to get under and way to heavy for me to lift, the cage on it weighs 100lbs including the dirt in it, not too mention everyother entertainment product there is in stock lol, but id say look in places that seem impossible. Needless to say he never escaped again via enough weighs to hold in a pro wrestler (slight exageration)

i would suggest leaving out food and definately water. even if it does not help you find her, it will give her a better chance of surviving while you search.

I found her around around 2 hours after she was noticed missing. She was hiding under an end table that my mice are on in the second part of the basement. Thank goodness she didn't get behind the 6x2x6 cage, I would have never been able to move that sucker to get her!!

I was sooooooooooooo happy to find her. She didn't look so impressed about it though. lol, she could just barely fit under that table and she was a bit cool but other than that perfectly fine. She went back in her cage and basked under the light for a bit, then tried to escape again, the little bugger. But this time I was ready for her. I put a temp. lock on her doors. I will be building new cages in the near future with glass locks on them. Thanks everyone for all your help. I'm so relieved, I can sleep easy now.

I tell ya Deb.... just when you think you've fixed the last escape route possible... somebody's missing again. I now have knee pads available for the time i spend crawling around on the floor, and my trusty gecko seeking flashlight of course.

What kills me, is.... 1st you find them, and pull them out, all relieved and happy... and then, 10 sec later, you're reading them the riot act , and informing them they have the right to seek legal counsel. Of course... i'm completely confident i have fixed the verrrry last escape route..... not!
