my ball is cold

i have my balls tank set up with an undertank heating pad on one side. in the tank i have two hides, one over the pad and one on the cold side. my ball always stays on the cold side and sometimes when i pick him up he is cold to the touch. he acts fine but this cant be good for him. then i thought maybe the warm side was too warm, but i can barely feel the heat coming through and there is no way it could burn the snake at all. what am i doing wrong? or is this normal? im confused.

Measure the temps with a digital thermometer. There is a problem, for sure but without the specific information, there's not much help to be given.

You need to measure you tanks temperature with a thermometer not your hand.

You're using your hand as a thermometer.lol
I'm just playing around but seriously you need to know exactly what the temperatures are on the hot spot directly, the cool end or the cage and the room the cage is in. Also help full is to know the temp of the room at through out the night the coldest it gets.
The best thing for you to do is to get a digital thermometer with a remote probe and a max/min memory. That way you can keep track of how hot the hot spot gets during the day and how hot it gets over night. You can also do the same for the cold end and for the room its self. Find out all these numbers first before changing anything.
Finnaly you snkae may be developing follicules but that is another story. Let's get you cage figured out first.
Cheers,
Trevor

When females approach the breeding season they will spend time on the cool side while they develop follicles. A follicle is what eventually ends up as an egg.
