MDF Glue
I picked up some MDF panels to make a quick and easy rack, and then discovered that the glue used to hold it together is dangerous if inhaled during cutting.
Not a big deal for me, I'll wear a mask. I just wonder the MDF gives off enough residue to interfere with the snakes.

just cut it outside and wipe it down very well with a rag and you should have np's. if your still worried about it, paint it or cover it with contact paper.

even melamine have toxic vapor coming for the glue that is used to make it, they suggest to put a plant in a room where you have something made of melamine to absorb the toxicity. its even more true when you heat it.

It is dangerous, even when not being actively worked with. It needs to be sealed, I forget the exact sealant, but I was watching a program in regards to it and it mentioned only one type was able to provide the seal required. MDF is linked to many long-term health problems. Melamine is just coated MDF, so Jay is right on the nose with that one. I can say from personal experience that it really does cause problems. If I am stuck in a room or car with fresh melamine I experience further breathing difficulties

Well, seeing as I'm having an allergen test next week to find out why my lungs keep filling with fluid, I think I'll just bring the MDF back to Home Depot.
Provided I can locate the receipt
Pine it is!

The Melamine I have used is made from particle board, not MDF.

All melamine is made of particle board, not MDF. MDF is fibreboard, not particle board. And yes, there is a HUGE difference.

MDF is mildly dangerous when it is fabricated. The danger comes from over-exposure over a period of 15+ years. The chances of you or your reptiles getting any kind of illness are almost non-existant and that's IF you work with MDF every single day for 15+ years in a shop where they fabricate/glue it.
Dangerous? Sure it is.
Just like eating cheeze whizz every morning.
