Sterile Rats

I was told last night that when the temprature is higher a male rat will become sterlie and cease to breed till things "cool Off" is there any truth to that comment?.....

i never experienced this when i bred my rats year round on my balcony

but when its too hot or too cold production does slow down

never experienced a male rat going sterile from being to hot tho

Yes both mice and rats.....I believe its not really "sterile" but in hotter temps the sperm are uneffective. Someone with the right terms and better vocab can probably explain it better.

For best results, keep breeding rodents under 80F.

Marisa said it sell enough. Anything around of above 80 and rats stop producing babies. The males are sterile, becasue they CAN reproduce, they just choose not to in hot weather, can you really blame them? I notice that 65-70 degrees keeps me in babies up the ying yang.

Also, spermatozoa does degenerate at high temps, resulting in malformed or weak spermatozoa. Simple protein denaturing.

Thank you all....we ourselves have never really had trouble with the rats reproducing but the fellow we are buyin a pair of red tails from *we already got the male * his population is kinda small and he is having some trouble producing enough feeders for his own retiples...He is the one who refered to the heat causin them to become sterile
