I've been using ground coconut husk for my substrate for my corns. I've read a few articles about not using pine due to the increased chance of respiratory illness. Does anyone know of any downsides to using coconut husks? I feed my corns in a seperate container, so ingestion of the substrate is not a problem.

I've used coconut husk in the past for my snakes and still do for one of my corns. I have never encountered a problem with this substrate but I have switched all but one of my snakes to aspen bedding. I find aspen easier to spot the messes and clean them up but it is a personal opinion.

As long as you feed outside the enclosure I don't see a problem.

There are really only two downsides to using the ground coconut husk (provided that you do not feed on it):

*unless it is wet, it can get quite dusty, and all the miniscule little fibres can get into your snakes respiratory system

*(as forementioned by Pixie) it can be very difficult to find soiled area, especially with snakes that have alot of liquid urine
