New mouse rack (Dialup warning)

This is a rack a friend of mine and I've been designing and working on over the last few days. Please let me know what you think, good and bad.

22 8’ 2” x 2”
12 8’ 1” x 2”
1 sheet of 3/16th plywood.
14mm staples
1 ½” screws
Drill
Staple Gun
Circular Saw
Jig Saw
Ό” Hardware Cloth
Counter-sink Pre-drill bit
Casters

Needed 32 2x2" cut 17 1/4"
16 2x2" cut 20 1/4"
48 3/16" cut 20 1/4" x 1/2"
48 1x2" cut 20 1
<IMG src="http://webhome.idirect.com/~wizwise2000/01.JPG">

We predrilled and counter sunk, then screwed together the 2”x2” framing.
Secure 4 171/4" 2x2's in the center spaced 7 5/8" apart (if I remember correctly)
The 20 1/4" (the ends) we put on the outside and not the inside.

<IMG src="http://webhome.idirect.com/~wizwise2000/02.JPG">

Then we cut the hard ware cloth to fit our frame.
Then we set the hardware cloth down and secured it with staples.

<IMG src="http://webhome.idirect.com/~wizwise2000/03.JPG">

After attaching the hardware cloth, we laid down and the ½” x 3/16th” on each of the rails and the two outside rails..

<IMG src="http://webhome.idirect.com/~wizwise2000/06.JPG">

We then placed on top of the plywood strips, the 20 1/4" 1x2's.

<IMG src="http://webhome.idirect.com/~wizwise2000/08.JPG">

Then counter-sunk and drilled down the screws.

Upside-down view with all 10 bins in.

Top view.
<IMG src="http://webhome.idirect.com/~wizwise2000/13.JPG">

Bin size, 3" lighter. Going to put 1.2 mice in here, I think it'll be too crowded with the babies, if so, I'll have to remove a female.

<IMG src="http://webhome.idirect.com/~wizwise2000/14.JPG">

The shelves are stacked 8 high, and it's a double sided rack on casters. We've run into a few issues where we needed to add some wood. But it looks alright. I'll try and get some pics when I fill it up.

Hope you like.
Thanks
Shane

neat idea, but you will find that they will 'push' the food around on top of the screen, making it difficult to keep food available to them. you may have to put sections on top of the screen to creat a trough, so the food stays in place. Just an idea. also you can go larger on your count. Why not go with a group 5 females ber bin and then have one male for every 2 bins. Then you can cycle that male back and forth between "his" two groups of ladies..

Cheers

I put 2 females in the bin and I feel it's too crouded. So I'm basically scrapping it and building a new one. I'm going to use this one as a growing rack. I'll post pics with a couple females in it.
