herp haven found in maryland

i use to live in the country where herps were often easy to find for many people but still hard for me even though i was always looking for them. now i live in the city and was thinking my chances of finding herps in the wild were cut down badly. but today me and my friends were bored so i suggested we go to a park and look for some wildlife (even bugs would be cool to find).

we didn't go far at all and i was finding frogs EVERY WHERE! wherever you walk they are jumping out of your way. i'm not sure what all types i saw but i'm sure one was a leopard frog and i'm pretty sure i saw some bull frogs.

soon i found an eastern box turtle...shell. it was a little sad that the animal was no longer living inside and my friend really wanted me to find a turtle but i kept it.

after about 1,000 more frogs we went down to the water, what did we find? well a ton of more frogs but also swimming in the water was a huge snapping turtle, it was VERY light in color, i wish it was a little closer to us or swam to our side of the pond. soon a little snake swam out into the water, he stopd in the middle of some frogs and sat there forever. i think it was just a little water snake but it really made my day, my goal in all herp searching is to find a snake. i was hoping there would be more but no more and that snake never ever moved.

thunder came and we decided we should leave before it started raining. i did NOT want to leave, there was much more park to explore and i knew i was going to miss out on some neat finds but i saw my snake and got to keep something from there. we will be back VERY soon and maybe with a camera.

wish me luck on my next trip *crosses fingers for finding a copperhead*
