I am considering keeping blue tongue skinks, but would like to know a little about them.
Anyone have these guys and have photos?
Thanks

I have a blue tongued I've had for almost 5 years now. They are great lizards, very curious and docile. They are also one of the easiest lizards to care for, in my opinion. He's the only one I have, but I'll never be without a blue tongue in my collection.
Here's a pic:

He's an Irian Jaya btw. I'd love to have a northern blue tongue myself.

A buddy of mine has 2 northern blue tongues his one was his first lizard and its a good size for its age and hardy. He's never had any problems with it rather that it frequently pees on people now but that may be because of the amount of lizards he now has along with the fact he just bought a female blue tongue skink from the Hamburg PA, it was only 8 weeks old and was almost a fully foot and hardy absolutly unheard of but the guy selling them had 8-10 of them that he said were only 8 weeks and were that size.
But I highly reccomend keeping them if you're looking for a 'pet' lizard.

I've got 2 northern males and 2 irian jaya females. You can see them on my site and if you check under care sheets there is a care sheet for them there as well.
I love these guys!! I plan on getting a couple more in the future. But I need to get more cages built. These guys should be housed alone, even females.
Reptile Rascals.

northerns and irian jaya's are very different.
You can tell them apart just by looking at their pattern. Although I have hear there are some mixed species out there as well.
Here is a northern Blue tongue.
Here is an irian jaya.
And here is an above shot of the two. The Norther is the bigger one on the right.
I used to have a female northern as well but I unfortunately lost her this past summer.

Kevin,
Go to google.ca and type in Blue tongue pages, check out that website where ever it pops up. It was written by the most successful BT keeper and breeder in Canada. BTW, They need excessive and PROPER UV lighting and a large cage, about 3-4 feet long minimum.

I would say go for the 4 feet. Mine is in a 3 foot long cage and I feel it's too small. Buy the 4 foot cage and be done with it.

You can find Craigs link on my link page and on my care sheet page as well. I got a lot of my info from him. He has retired breeding bt's because he has a new baby now but he was a wonderful help to me and he is still wonderful about answering any questions and emails people send him.
