What do you feed baby scorpions?

I have three scorpions, fat little babies about the size of a kernal of corn each. First of all, what do you feed them? I have a dead cricket in their cage and just in case they eat fruit I have a mango slice. Second of all, Do they do well together? They sleep piled up on top of each other, but I'm not sure if they're like praying manti.

would depend on scorp. try fruitflys/pin heads, usually the mom feeds em for a bit.

What kind of scorps? If they are the size of a kernel of corn, you could put in pinheads. You could also put in a 2wk old cricket, live, or dead. The scorpion I just sold was about 1"- 1.5" long. He takes 4wk old crickets like taking candy from a baby. I also believe that he was too small to envenomate. The ones you have, if they are emperors or asian forest scopions, should have a pretty good pinch(It wouldnt really hurt you from their size, but I know mine actually hurt). Anyways, they probably wont eat fruit. Never heard of that? Also, why didnt you do research on the scorpions your getting in the first place? I have seen you contribute(well not exactly) in threads where people do no research at all about the animal they are getting and you have told us to go easy on them, its maybe an accident. Well, I would think you would have clued in? But good luck with them!

Edit: As far as them piling on top of each other, once they reach 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch long, seperate them because after 3/4 of an inch, they can likely do damage to each other, and one or two of the three are likely to outcompete the others.

Easiest way is to just squish a cricket and throw it in there. They will eat the soft part. TB

Chris, nobody I asked knew what they eat or don't eat. Why else would I ask you guys?????

I'm not sure what type of scorpions they are, but I found them here in San Antonio. They look fragile, not too strong, and they are yellowish. I wasn't sure they would eat fruit (since they are arachnids) so I gave them a squished cricket. I don't think they even noticed it and it dried up.

The reason I got them before I did research is because I caught them and can let them go whenever I want to. I still strongly encourage research of non native animals, since letting them go is not a possibility.

I have a piece of wet toilet paper as a water source because I think using a dish could drown them.

Please help me if I am doing anything incorrectly.

Sorry, Didnt know you "caught" them. LOL. Alright, they will be hard to identify the species until they have their true colors and judging by their size, you won't have a clue for a month or two, however my guess would be bark scorpions, but I assume that as you dont know, hands off right?o>. I agree, about the cotton working better. And trow in smushed crix until they are look fat(When the top and bottom abdominal scales are fairly seperated and you see alot of skin between them). Dont overfeed as some scorpions have been known to blow themselves up! LOL. And they wont eat the fruit, but It doesn't hurt as a water source! Lol, vitamin filled! Good luck with them!

I know cotton balls work better; I use them for my crickets and have never used toilet paper. I just can't find any cotton balls in this house at the moment. I also had considered the water in fruit idea and decided on watermelon.


Bark scorpions make since, on account of I found them on bark!


I found out the other day that a mom scorpion can't sting you with babies on it's back


And just to give you an idea about my misinformed self: I asked one person what baby scorpions eat and they said that they get milk from their moms!!!!!!!!! I obviously didn't believe that since only mammals are breast-fed, and I guess I made a good decision asking you guys!

Thats interesting that they cannot sting with the babies on their backs. I would guess that it would be because if they move their tail around too much they could crush/hit/hurt the young. However, I have seen mothers with their tails poised and claws open. Maybe the tail was just in the air to intimidate?

I was thinking watermelon as far as the "water in fruit" idea.

MILK FROM THEIR MOTHERS? What did you reply to them?! LOL.

Well, I'm sure they can sting with babies (I'm not trying to give out false facts) but the mother I saw the other day didn't even try. My guess was because of the babies as well. All of the other scorpions of the same species tried to sting readily, so that's just an educated guess.

About the milk thing: First I looked at them like they were crazy, and then I told them that they were crazy!

When i had my first batch of babies i didnt noe what they ate either so i called my local petshop and asked. They sed that the babies will eat fruit such as bananas,apples and such. But that is complete BS! Scorpions are carnivorous animals and will not eat fruit. So id say take out the fruit or you might get an infestation of fruit flies, bacteria and mold. Cut up some mealworms or king worms and leave em in there for the scorps, they shouldnt have any trouble eating it on their own. You can also squish a cricket and throw it in there like tim and julie said.
